Hey, megabus.com have got some kind of partnership with southwest trains and east midlands trains meaning you can get tickets available on some train routes starting at Ј1.
one example is the sheffield to norwich line route, which goes through nottingham and many other stations. If you look throughout the next month there are regular train tickets for Ј1 so if you're travelling from norwich to manchester or vice versa you can book one of these tickets to sheffield and then buy an advance ticket on the sheffield to manchester leg from thetrainline.com for about Ј3.30, meaning the whole trip from norwich to manchester or vice versa can be about Ј4, an absolute bargain when an anytime ticket can cost upto Ј200 and an off peak for Ј50
as far as i know this has been going on for ages but i've only just found out and I don't think it's been vey well publicised. I hope i've been clear and there are loads of other routes, but it's just worth going on the website and playing about with the different journey's and you will eventually find a bargain, which i'd know earlier and i would have saved loads over the past 3 years, cheers

• If you visit the megabus website (megabusplus.com) , everything can be done on there. Simply type in the location you're leaving from, then type in the location you're travelling to. Then if there is an available route by train it will come up in the 'travelling by' section. Then you put in the date of the journey and it should come up with the available tickets. As I mentioned previously there's a lot of fiddling around to be done, but if you book in advance i've seen Ј1 tickets a week or so ahead and you can even buy them for the next day at very reduced rates. Another thing to note is that once youve paid you won't be sent a ticket, all you have to do is print off the page they will email you, which contains a reference number you show to the conductor. It all sounds a bit weird but i've looked up reviews online and nobody seems to have had any trouble with this system, Good Luck!
• Oh and as far as i'm aware you can't use railcards to book tickets, There is a concessions section though and if you have an NUS extra card you receive an extra 10% off your train fare
