A question about : Really angry at peoples attitude to disabled.

My bil made a comment on facebook about my hubby being a scrounger, because his my carer and how at least his hard work paid for his car. We have a motability car. due to me having stage 4 lung disease, ehlos danlos syndrome, with arthiritis and cfs. What is wrong with people.

Best answers:

  • Terminal stupidity
The thing to remember is that your BIL is the exception - most people aren't like that.
  • People are stupid.
They see the 'easy' part of neither of you needing to 'work' and getting 'free stuff' but conveniently forget about the part where you are living and dealing with a difficult illness.
It's just jealousy with severe lack of thought (would he prefer to be in your position? I very much doubt it) - I'd just let it go over your head.
  • I wouldn't worry what others say or think. There's a lot of nasty people out there. I can't work because of my illness and disability and i claim ESA and PIP but i'd gladly give both up if i had my health and could work. Sadly that's not going to be possible ever. I'd love to see those that moan go through what i deal with daily, they'd soon shut up!
  • Delete and block, then remove this toxic person from your life
  • People use Fakebash to write tripe about other people.
  • Your BIL sounds like the sort of person you should remove from your life. He must know the details of your illness, and he's just nasty - and jealous of the car.
    xx
  • I'd be tempted to write a comment on facebook saying how he too can have a "free car" if he just agrees to painful and life limiting illnesses.
People like that do my head in.
  • i am registered blind with a stupidly limited amount of sight ....
i'm really not @rsed what anyone else thinks ... )
  • Sensible people object to scroungers, but support people who genuinely need help.
  • Simple answer just tell him you would gladly swap with him. He can have your life and you take his. I know which I would chose. You don't need to go into much detail but a quick explanation of what you go through on a daily basis might make him think.
I would actually write that answer on face book sometime the written word sinks in more than a spoken reply it also gives other chance to read you response I don't like Facebook but on this occasion it would be good to see the other comments as i am sure people will comment in support of you.
  • I get comments from my step dad I would love to go back to work and feel guilty if I have a good day - well good hour as things can change in a heart beat - I tend just to say nothing as not worth it but it does make me feel bad. But on the positive side found out the treatment for precancer worked and at mo drs happy and just monitoring so at least one less worry on the long list of failings in this old bod. And had I not had my accident and developed m.e. the medics would not have found the pre- cancer so could have been a hell of alot worse
  • MSE Discussion is full of these terminally ignorant people.
  • well i sent a long list of my illnesses to one sister in law as she had no idea and she sent a message back saying sorry your not ok. she was round mil the other day and mentioned car and mil told her it was my mobility car and that you can have any car in return for your allowance. as they all 4 of them seemed to take offence that i had a mercedes for free well its not free. I worked out over the 3 years it would cost nearly Ј11000. His not on my facebook friends list but my daughter is friends with him they forget she can see their nasty comments.
  • Hey all. to me the worst offender is the DWP. When they tell you that the disability you have has all but disappeared when they refuse you a benefit that you have been receiving for the past 20 years. It makes you feel as though they consider you a scrounger.
  • Fortunately not everyone is so ignorant. When I had a total knee replacement my OH pushed me around the supermarket in a wheelchair. Other than a few (joky) comments about him liking to push me around everyone I met was really helpful and friendly.
  • I always wonder if those envious of all the "free cars" and "loadsadosh" we allegedly get (I wish lol), means they would like our disabilities full time?
    Probably not......
To be honest, I don't get offended, in fact it always makes me laugh, because if they choose to spend their spare time festering and begrudging, then they will end up miserable, not me.
    Best ignored.
