A question about : Put in the covering letter or on the application Form?

I'm applying for a senior (non teaching) position in a school and even if I say so myself I've composed a great piece about my experience etc.

Anyway reading the application form, it states that applicants are encouraged to submit a covering letter and here's where I have the problem.

Do I put in the experience bit my composition or do I put in in the covering letter and in the experience bit refer the employer to my covering letter or do I just put my essay in the experience bit and just put a standard covering letter together?

I must admit I'm tempted to do the 2nd but would appreciate others thoughts.

  • Sometimes I think employers ask for these just to see how you can compose a letter (and usually they want it in your own handwriting) Application forms are factual and not the same as writing a letter. Having said that you have composed a great piece for your application so I would just write a standard covering letter refering them to your comprehensive application outlining your relevant experience....good luck!
  • I think I'd do the second. You can use the covering letter to say anything which doesn't fit 'neatly' into a standard application, perhaps why you're applying for this job, what wonderful things you've heard about the school, how much you'd love to join their dynamic team etc etc etc.
  • Thanks Guys
Hopefully I will get an interview out of this.....I got one using something very similar for a similar job in another school but managed to blow the interview out of the water....but hopefully I'll be coming back to this board for advice about that soon!
  • Recent thread about interviews here, some very sound advice there (not just from me! ) hope it helps but do ask if you have anything else you want to know.
