Program to convert or open docx files

A question about : Program to convert or open docx files

I have been looking for something that will convert docx files to a word program or pdf. I downloaded something from cnet but it said the program was malicious, can anyone recommend anything? Thanks

• I don't quite follow you - DOCX is a Word document format!
  Does that mean you don't have Microsoft Office/Word? If so, go with Fightsback's suggestion!
• MS Works stored file info in a pseudo-XML format? I didn't know that.
  (That's what the X in docx refers to).

• If you have a pre 2007 version of Office then download the compatibility pack.
  If you have no office suite then download open office or libre office.
  If you just want to convert to pdf then download cute writer pdf
