A question about : PPI reclaim 4 years after the initial application

Hi, I hope somebody can help or offer some guidance.

In 2011 I approached a third party PPI claim company (which knowing more about it now, I could have completed this myself, anyway). After several months I received a letter from the credit card company and then following this a letter from the PPI company stating that my claim was not upheld. The letter from the PPI company then stated that my case was closed. No Win No Fee, so I have not paid any fee.

3+ years on I recently received a letter from credit card company which stated my case was not looked at correctly and it should have been upheld, as a result a cheque was enclosed to reimburse me. That same day the PPI company called full of joyous news that they successfully reclaimed my PPI and that their invoice was on its way.

I appreciate I approached the PPI company in the first place and had they not submitted the claim then I would never have recovered anything but my question is the case was (apparently) closed in 2011 and was not successful so do I still need to pay their fee?
The credit card company have copied the PPI company into all correspondence and I have called the PPI company and they stated its in the small print of the T&C, which I no longer have after 4 years.

thanks

  • I suggest you complain to the PPI company that they were negligent in failing take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service at the time.
  • I think this should be in CPP reclaiming but not sure how to put it over there
  • CPP reclaim scheme is now closed so I'd just take the cash and go.
For what it's worth I had a similar product from Halifax and that was every 2-3 years for a fixed price around that level (can't remember exactly) - the money is better than nothing.
  • have moved this over cpp thanks
  • Hi
I apologise for not logging back on sooner but i didnt have access to email while i was away.
Thanks for the replies. I do not believe I had CPP, as my understanding is CPP covers all your cards and other stuff such as keys etc.
What i had was PPI (or i think it was), basically i paid a premium for every pound that was owing to the CC. To be honest it was such a long time ago that im not sure.
anyway the reason for my question in my original post was should the ppi reclaim company still be entitled to their fee? after all they closed the case. it was the CC company that re-investigated it.
I have written to the PPI company regarding complaints procedure as noted in one of the replies.
    thanks

  • yes thats what i thought, there would be something in the T&C somewhere.
so it looks like i am another silly person duped into using a PPI reclaim company, when i could have completed the process myself. very frustrating but a lesson learnt.
never the less i think i will still make a complaint to the PPI company, if nothing else i can vent a little frustration.
    thanks
