A question about : PIP Mobility Component for SMI

Hi,

I have the lovely task of completing the PIP form for my son this weekend. His DLA ends on his 18th birthday in May.

I've asked his social worker, transition support worker at school, and Dr and PIP is new to all of them.

I remember reading something about the mobility component for Severe Mental Impairment - obviously now i'm doing the form, goggle isn't finding any info for me.

Has anyone been through the PIP process for SMI/Autism/Complex Learning Difficulties?

• All you are looking for is evidence of his difficulties with mobility/day to day living. It's much like the process for applying for DLA when it comes to getting evidence, get them to provide statements, reports or anything else you can think off which detail his difficulties and how he is supported/what kind of support does he need.
  I normally don't point people to the Disability and Work website as I don't agree with the charges (subscriptions) they charge to people in order to get help with filling in these forms, but as PIP is new to everyone it's more likely that they will have some experience from one of their members of filling the PIP form for someone whio has issues similar to your sons.

  Alternatively seek out advice on forums that are specific to your sons condition(s). It is likely that some of those people will have experience of PIP and may be able to point you in the right direction.
• SMI mattered for DLA.
  It has no exact counterpart in PIP.
