A question about : PIP coming to more areas.

For those who have a change in their health condition, hit the end of their award, or are becoming 16, a new set of postcodes is being added on Jan 26.

Quote:

From 26 January 2015, PIP will be extended to postcode areas: Glasgow (G), Newcastle (NE), Warrington (WA), Wigan (WN), Durham (DH), Sunderland (SR) and Inverness (IV). This follows on from an earlier rollout in November 2014, which included postcode areas in Manchester (M), Liverpool (L), Chester (CH) and Huddersfield (HD).

Claimants in these postcode areas will be invited to make a claim to PIP where either:
their existing DLA claim's fixed term award is coming to an end, or
they are approaching age 16, or
we receive information about a change in their care or mobility needs, or
an individual chooses to claim PIP instead of their DLA.

And yes, this is in spite of them having - at the best case - new claims for PIP taking 4 months to be decided.

If your health has worsened recently, especially if you have mobility issues and usually use a wheelchair or are getting HRC/MRC DLA because you need 'watching over' or 'supervision', you may want to think hard if you want to make an application before the 26th in these postcodes.

  • Is PIP only in those area postcodes? I am in a CO postcode and my daughters child dla is being switched to PIP when she turns 16 at the end of April , according to a letter I received in December. But her dla as a child was awarded last year up to October this year, so I am unsure about the time scales. thanks

Having googled it looks like my area is not having PIP yet! So pretty confused why I got that letter and why they want to come and assess us next week? I only had an ansaphone message about them coming as I was out, not sure if it is a meeting about me acting on her behalf or if it is in fact to medically assess her. Will need to phone them to find out for sure.
  • hi
I am a bit confused here. I have been on dla for a long time, I get higher rate of care and lower rate mobility.my circumstances are worse as I cant walk as far.i now qualify for higher rate of mobility but have been put off claiming for it in fear I may lose altogether. just read my area will be getting letters to claim for pip after 26th jan 2015
should I wait or claim before they send out the letters? this may get my claim dealt with sooner.
what happens to my dla while I wait for the pip claim to be dealt with?

if I report a change in my condition before 26th jan will it be a dla claim or a pip claim
  • racon you screwed up, please dont make suggestions of what people should do as you will cause people stress and upset, having read some of your posts you have raged about disabled people getting free cars and free money, you really do sound bitter, please stop taking it out on others, you didnt appeal in time, if you felt dwp were right then stop wittering on.
Roger Black on the other hand has a lot of respect on here for being accurate, and helpful, please dont misguide people here, i know you are bitter about what happened to you, dont try and get other people to make your mistakes, Hey
  • My postcode on the pip map is white, no dates given my award runs until 2018 but I take it I could be reassessed anytime from now? I have epilepsy and have seizures 6/7 times a week from what I have read it's likely I will lose my award..not sure it's worth applying and enduring all the stress tbh
  • I have to admit that I have read a lot of horror stories, not just on MSE but elsewhwhere about people having been on DLA and losing everything when having to apply to PIP. Some of them have had long term awards and have clear disabilities to boot. So I do think there is some credence in these cases but at the same time I accept that it is not necessarily the same in everyones case.
As someone who has been on DLA for 7 years and faced 4 reassessments and the first 2 going to tribunal before seeing my award increased and made indefinte last June, I dread the thought of having to go through the process with PIP, whenever that day comes.
It is apparent that Government figures are set to take away a set number of claimants awards to meet budget restraints and there is a lot of concern still as to whether the process is fair, or set up to fail a lot of people. I accept that it did need to be tightened up but it has gone too far the other way now, in my view. The net result leaving a lot of vulnerable people with clear disabilities suffering as a result.
