A question about : Pip assessment this morning

New so please bare with me .. Assessment was this morning . they never turned up last Friday . it was over two hours long!!! .My daughter already has Dla , high rate care, and low mobility it is till march 2015
but i fear she will get nothing as the the lady who assessed her told us we would not have enough points . are they ment to tell you ? My daughter is only 17 has not been in main education for many years . This has bought another episode she suffers from cvs , and migraines plus other health issues . The assessment seems to not care what your illness is but if you can make a coffee or piece of toast ..Does any one know how long it takes to get the knock back , we are both in tears how we were made to feel ...... many thanks title=Frown

Best answers:

  • Whats cvs? and what other health issues as she got. PIP is based on what she can and cant do. Not on the illness.
  • I am also unsure what CVS is. What care and mobility needs does she have?
  • Cyclical vomiting syndrome
  • .Sorry back now , she also has mental problems been under cahms for many yrs now under healthy minds , She needs to be taken every where . she will go into a episode at anytime which can last for a month , meaning going into hosp or being being house bound Also we have to get emerg injections she has also been admitted into to hosp many times over the yrs , Yes she does need an adult to drive her help her , sorry but all this morning has ment a injection given by a doctor . I have tried to get them to let me train to do all this but as there inter muscle they wont let me ,or let me train to do drips , all i want to do is help her have a life ..i fear she will drop put of college now as she will only leave the house with me and in my car with coxing .I just wish they had not told us she may not get the points as i am already picking the mess up and over 2 hrs of this broke my heart for her
  • well i will wait and see when we get the letter . i just wish she hadnt told her today, really no need as she already knew she was in a episode and distressed and two hours seems not on for me at all .. dont no how long they take to let us know ? will let you no what points we get and we do intended to appeal . thanks for your input .
  • She needs to be able to do whatever she is assessed on:
Repeatably - as often as needed.
Safely - without causing herself or others safety issues.
In a reasonable time period - no more than twice what it would take a normal person.
If she cannot do an activity - for whatever reason - for example it would bring on an episode, or likely cause her condition to worsen - then she cannot do it.
Even if she can actually struggle through and physically complete the action.
  • Thanks for your reply we tried to tell the lady why she couldnt do these things but she just kept talking over us . I felt she put words in my daughters mouth ..and i didnt think telling her she wouldnt get enough points was clever as that just left my daughter in a mess and stressed .. There is no way on earth if we dont get it after 6 YRS on Dla that i will let her go threw this again .. Doubt its worth complaining to anyone , . many thanks again , just dont no how long we wait now for the no letter
  • re what do we need the money for ... she used to have taxis to hosp school for 5 yrs but not at college . so i have to drive her every where to the gps . hosp , healthy minds , you name it , with out the extra money i couldnt be with her and care for her like she needs i would have to return to work to keep a roof over our heads and she would not be able to go to college . such a shame this has been her life for 9 yrs she wants to try college even may be try uni , There is only her and me , , iv spoken to someone today who had rang capita told them we will be making a complaint , also her report has already gone to the dwp , all very quick and speedy ... thanks for all the kinds comments . x
  • just to add ....
the person that made the hone visit doesn't make the decision. sp they were acting well beyond their capabilities in saying anything.
as long as your paper evidence was stromng, i wouldn't get myself too worried just yet
  • nannytone , i now know that but we just shut down she was so strong minded . we answered a question she would go i can not put that down . it will get sent back to me and told us it was this answer , we just gave in , feel i have let my daughter down so much x
  • Hi, just a thought as my colleague's daughter has cvs - when her daughter who is 18 goes through a vomiting period, she can't get out of bed, if she goes to the toilet she needs help to get there, she needs the container she is being sick in changing regularly for her and tissues brought to wipe her mouth. She also needs reassurance because she is usually distressed as it goes on for days... she then needs fresh drinks bringing so that she can take small sips to stop her becoming dehydrated.... I guess it depends how often she has these episodes but whilst it is happening she needs help. There is also a mental health issue as her life is disrupted continuously causing depression as she has no friends, they have all lost touch due to her not being able to join in social events, constantly cancelling at late notice due to vomiting- she needs reassurance and support from both parents to stop the downward spiral.
I don't know if this sounds familiar or if my colleague's situation is different but hope it helps. I do not know if they get DLA or not.
It sounds like very hard work for you both, I hope you have some form of support.
    Ted
  • Ted , yes that is like my daughter she is in bed sometimes up to a month at a time, she has been like this since 9 ys old in and out of various hospitals also seeing people for her mental health since 11 yrs old , At 11 left main stream schooling for a home teaching unit . I have left a letter with the lady who helped us fill in the pip forms she has already rang capita and will now be sending a letter with formal complaint . asking for her to be assessed again and the medical report to be sent to us . . i am to angry and upset to ring them as i dont think i am in a good place to chat to these people , also been told to see my mp .? x
