A question about : Pay Monthly contract via 3rd party

Hello,

I'm out of contract and want to sign up for a new iPhone 6 on pay monthly.

The deals offered by 3rd party companies such as Carphone Warehouse and MobilesDirect are significantly better than those available direct from Three, Vodafone, etc.

Is there any down-side to going via a 3rd party supplier or is there a significant risk that they will up their prices mid contract?

Or anything else I should bear in mind?

Thanks in advance - my brain is slightly frazzled with all the choices out there.

Best answers:

  • They just sell you the contract that is directly with the network. Whether the latter can or cannot increase the price depends on their current T&C. If they can, normally the price rise is limited by RPI.
However, the 'third party' supplies the handset, and the obligations under SoGA (in addition to the manufacturer's warranty) lies on the third party, not on the network.
    Don't forget Qudco/TCB.
  • Thank you!
I just spoke to someone at Mobile Phones Direct who said that part of the reason they are able to charge less for contracts is down to not having the upkeep of running a network, which is something I hadn't considered.
Looking at a Vodafone deal via MPD for an iPhone 6 64GB, free upfront for Ј44.50 pcm, including unlimited minutes and texts plus 7GB of data. Plus I'd get free Spotify Premium which I'm currently paying Ј10 a month for anyway...
Vodafone also claim that they won't put up their contract price mid-contract (can't post the link as I am new!).
    Seems like a good'un...
  • Thanks for the Quidco/Top Cashback advice too - I rarely think to use these
  • Just be aware that three are a few threads saying you could be chased for monies if you cancel a 3d party contract early, even if you pay up the contract with the airtime provider.
Not an issue if you intend to run to the end of the minimum term though.
  • Voda are I think the only network to voluntarily agree to the basic proposals of the Which 'fixed means fixed' campaign.
