A question about : parents 50th wedding anniversary

My parents 50th wedding anniversary is a few months away .
So now I need ideas how to celebrate it .They are 78 & 82 and both tea total . All ideas welcome.

Best answers:

  • How about trying to buy a coinset for the year they were married It's not hard to find companies on the 'net who can supply these.
  • A golden grocery hamper.
Cover a box in gold wrapping paper, then add 50 grocery items with the words gold or golden in the title:
    Golden Shred Marmalade
    Golden Delicious Apples
    McVities Gold biscuits
    Golden Syrup
My friend did it for her grandparents and they were over the moon with it. I was going to do it for my grandparents but my Grandad died shortly before their golden anniversary
  • What about a trip on the Orient Express? There are plenty of choices for short trips.
  • 50 Kitkats so that they get the chance to find a Big Brother Golden ticket
  • On my grandparents golden celebrations a while back the family rented out a local hall. We got some tables and chairs, decorated it, and put together a buffet. As well as inviting all the family and friends of course. A cake was made up (if I remember correctly) and a big bunch of yellow / gold flowers presented to my nan on the day.
Can't remember the drinks, but my Nan's idea of 'having a tipple' was watching a wine glass filled with a tablespoon of wine all day. Suspect a selection was laid on (including a bit of alcohol and tea etc...)
They had a great time....and so did everyone else. But only because this is what they wanted. They didn't care about gifts, but felt that a true 'gift' was to see all the family and for everyone to have fun.
Sadly my nan is now dead, but we did a similar thing for my grandfather's 90th. He had a great time showing off his 1 year old great grandson to all comers (some of which he hadn't seen in ages.....the family did a bit of hunting and found some very old friends of his)
