A question about : Pancake Day!

/

It's Pancake Day tomorrow which is one of our favourite things to celebrate at MSE, seeing as it's all based around using what you've got in your cupboards and being a bit thrifty!

So we want you to vote in The Great MSE Poll...Sweet or Savoury?

I personally prefer the classic lemon and sugar, but I've seen some great combinations out there from Nutella and banana to Chicken satay! :/

Feel free to post your best, thriftiest recipes as well.

Let us know if you're a sweet or savoury pancake-r in the poll title=Smile

Best answers:

  • Sweet, lemon and sugar are our favourites
  • My husband just had golden syrup and black pepper. He said it was delicious. He's a very strange man!
  • given it is national cabbage day should be savoury - so try Japanese cabbage pancakes
  • I always have fresh squeezed orange juice on mine, the lemon makes it a bit too 'tart' for my taste buds!
I made the batter up at lunchtime then put it away in the fridge to let the gluten rest.
  • I prefer sweet but did do savoury ones last year for a change, back to sweet ones this year
  • Lime and brown sugar
    Coconut and blackcurrant jam
    Nutella
    Pear and dulce de leche
  • I had mine with bacon and maple syrup
  • I don't like them but made them for him indoors. He ate them with sugar and fresh lemon
  • Him indoors poured honey on his pancakes
me indoors - fresh fruit salad, double cream and x2 pancakes.
  • I had to think about this one - I make pancakes often with the grandgirls and we usually make sweet ones - and I don't have one. but, if I make pancakes for me and OH - then I fill them with savoury stuff. like leftover Bolognese or Cheese.
oh and today grandgirls and I discussed WHY pancakes are traditional. the girls said it was to use up eggs etc............and I pointed out that it only uses ONE egg to every 8ounces of flour - hardly using up eggs! scrambled eggs or omelette would use up more eggs.
  • We had ours with honey.
  • We had three different sweet toppings:
    lemon juice and sugar
    golden syrup
    lemon curd.
Going to make sure we don't wait a year before we have pancakes again
  • Fresh squeezed orange juice and sugar on ours.
I have to say, I don't know why we don't have them more often considering how cheap they are!
  • Today's were with maple syrup. There's still some batter left, so if I get up in time I'll have one with yoghurt and berries for breakfast. And I was just looking at the half-tin of cocunut milk in the fridge wondering if pancakes with 50-50 normal milk and coconut milk might be nice, maybe with lime and brown sugar or pineapple and cream.
