A question about : Over 50's Advice & tips please

My mum is 53 and really struggling with money. She has a mortgage, a secured loan and is behind with her other bills.

I am looking for any advice on help she can get now she is over 50?

Best answers:

  • I am not sure that being over 50 brings any extra help: too young for any extra benefits as far as I know.
The Debt-Free Wannabe board is probably the place for her to start, or for you to help her start, there are some sticky threads there which it would be worth reading, including links to organisations which can help, like StepChange and CAP.
One word of warning though: you won't be able to sort out your mum's debt problems unless she accepts that something needs to change, and is willing to make changes. That's true at any age, but sometimes people say one thing, and do another.
Hope you are able to support your mum through this.
  • She's a very lucky woman having you to look out for her. Good advice above.
