A question about : O/S Daily Tuesday 24th February 2015

O/S Daily Tuesday 24th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, air still feels chilly though.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, new potatoes, veg and onion sauce, ice cream for dessert for those that had room. Tonight will be fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I'll be having fish, jacket potato and veg.
Work wasn't the manic Monday we expected - we had no enquiries regarding the unpaid monies yesterday which leads us to believe the letters either haven't gone out or they have gone out late and have yet to hit the mats - so we still have that to look forward to! We did have a busy spell just before lunch but we managed to get everyone seen in a timely fashion even though we were short staffed. I'm working at the other office today so will wait to see if it's busier today - if the letters start hitting the mats then it will be, if not, it'll be another quiet day. This is the calm before the storm though, as the new bills are being printed this weekend, and will be going out within the next 2 weeks - then chaos resumes!
    Have good Tuesdays' everyone x
    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Sounds horrible outside, the wind has been howling all night and rain lashing against the windows.
Getting myself organised early today for our treck to St James for Mr TA's injection. It's a long and tedious drive to Leeds from here so we always go by train. Much easier and quicker. And when we can leave after 9.30 it's half price with our OAP passes! If all goes well we will treat ourselves to lunch afterwards in Leeds.
My GP appointment went just as expected - increase your antibiotics and see how you go! Sample sent off and ring for result. I see consultant again on the 16th March but I am not expecting a miracle cure from him either. They all agree the early menopause is at fault for "thinning" some bits and "thickening" others but seem unable to cure it! I knew I should have stayed on HRT longer!!
Have a good day all and hope the poorly ones soon pick up. I think we are all in desperate need of warmth and sunshine. Take care xx
  • Good morning everyone
It's absolutely blummin' freezing here. I really hoped Spring was on it's way after a couple of lovely warm days last week but that is a dim distant memory now. We've had snow, hail, freezing winds and thunder and lightning yesterday and woke up to the rain lashing against the window this morning. I'm not going out in it anyway so will wrap up warm and potter around inside.
Hubby has gone off to work in a grump because he can't find his wooly hat that he may have put away a couple of years ago!! DD13 is still poorly and will stay home with me today. The others are getting ready for school and trying to find PE kits etc.
I've taken some mince out to make a bolognaise sauce later for tea. I didn't manage to bake yesterday so will make a cake today. I went to Slimming World yesterday and lost another 4.5lb which also made me slimmer of the week, I was very happy and a bit embarrassed but I love the stickers and certificates you get, I'm a sucker for anything sparkly and shiny.
I hope everyone manages to have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning all,
Very cold here this morning, we had a tiny snow flurry yesterday not even enough to settle but it looked pretty !
Off to work today, at the other site all this week busy day today which is great as it makes the day fly by.
Last of the roast beef tonight (apart from what went in the freezer) will do it with mash and peas and pickle, I love that meal, so looking forward to it.
Need to do a wash tonight and have a tidy through.
Good luck to Mr TA xx
    Have good days all xx
  • Morning All
Wet and windy here just for a change! Up early and have done the ironing. Had a phone call whilst I was at work yesterday to say that my wardrobe was being delivered within the next hour, didn't even know they were going to try, I was given today's date and then cancelled that. Phoned company and they knew nothing about it either! Anyway, it appears that they are going to deliver this morning before 9 so have told work I may be late. Been waiting 6 weeks for the bloomin thing.
Washing up to date but drying inside, DW emptied and packed lunches made.
Dumpling, well done on the weight loss.
TA, hope hubby's injection goes well.
Went to C0stco last night as we had no mince, salmon or chicken, the freezer is looking a little healthier now. Got caught up in traffic so took longer than it should have.
Chicken stir fry for tea. Have a good day everyone. LW, Molly & hilstep - hope you are all ok. Take care. XX
  • Morning everyone.
Gosh , it was wild yesterday and overnight. The rain was so bad that I didn't go out at all yesterday even though I had planned to.
Had a little problem with the woodburner but a kind neighbour came out and fixed it for me, in all that awful weather.
Arrived safely in Stirling with the roads just wet. Lovely to see the light start to appear much earlier than last month.
    Short week here
I've brought some foodstuff down with me as the freezer is full to the brim. Now I have to face the stuff on my desk, not been here for about 10 days apart from a fleeting visit last Tuesday so it's all still here.
Hope everyone has a good day. BTW - well done Dumpling!
  • Good morning all,
Another cold but bright morning, roll on Spring.
Need to pop into town today for a few bits. Must go to P**ndland to stock up on cleaning bits and bobs, and must pop to Bank.
We had the last of the chicken crown for our meal last night, I bought it in Mr. T and it was lovely, really moist.
Dumpling Well done on the weight loss, you are doing so well, keep it up.
Have a good day everyone whatever you might be doing snd hugs and well wishes to all poorlies

I have to pop to the post office this morning to post off my brothers parcel to France God knows how much it will cost as postage is an horrendous price these days . When I come home I want to make some banana bread from a new recipe that DGS Ben's GF sent me.Looks lush and hopefully will tase as nice as well.

Have a good day everyone and keep wrapped up warm if you can ,spring is on its way I hope

  • Morning, yesterday was a bad day OH spent most of the afternoon and evening in bed, we are seeing the Dr this morning. We really need to get somewhere all on the flat. The stairs are killing ne one way or another. I am so tired, nut cannot sleep, was awake at 4.30 and did not do back to sleep despite putting our electric blanket on low.
Bright morning after all the rain yesterday, I managed to get the towels half dry, finished them off on the airer.
  • Good Morning everyone, cold again here too but at least bright and sunny. I am also really fed up with this cold weather, it seems to be worse this year than it has been in the past for me and I'm beginning to look like a michelin man in the evenings wrapped up in warm throws and snuggling on my chair moved over to the wood stove. Oh how I long for some warmer days and to be able to enjoy being outside instead of scuttling along like a beetle with the only thought in my head to get back indoors as quickly as possible.
DD2 and that Zebra and SIL are currently having a break in the snow in Scotland. Zebra hasn't seen snow before and I wonder what he's made of it? SIL will be off skiing with the friends they have gone with so he'll be happy at least. Today sees us start to clear the smaller back bedroom in readiness for a new carpet and tomorrow will be spruce up day in there if any painting needs to be done. Looks like we're going to be busy, look after yourselves and stay warm, Lyn xxx.
  • Morning all,

  • Morning all! Second load of washing in the machine and bathrooms cleaned. Popping out to walk down to town in a bit to collect a book from the library and have another door key cut - we have lost one, it will probably turn up but I'd rather get a spare. Then I must wash the floors and might do some baking.
  • Morning all,
Judi - Sorry to hear about your DD. Can anything be done?
Sunny but very cold out. Back to work for me, did the early bit then whizzed into Tesco to pick up a little more veg for the slow cooked mint lamb shoulder stewy think I am doing in the SC.
Off for a walk with my friend this afternoon. Back to work shortly.
    Have a good day
  • J am so sorry to hesr about your DD, and I can quite understand how wrried you are.
I would suppose if anything can be done it is likely to be a lengthy process, spines are very complicated parts of our body.
Sending hugs to you and DD and try not to worry too much until she has been to see a Doctor.

  • Thank you for your support. My daughter is seeing a chiropractor at the moment. I asked her if surgery was an option and she said she hoped it wouldn't be needed but when I looked at the picture she sent me of her standing upright I cant see it getting any better or even staying the same. She is seeing the chiropractor on Thursday meanwhile she is sitting this course for the benefit of the Baby Home.
Theres something not right at the Residential home where Mom is. I feel a cool distance between myself and the staff which isn't coming from me. I feel like they have pulled ranks now my brothers girlfriend has made complaints against the home. I cant quite put my finger on it but the friendliness has gone and its been replaced with a professional attitude and lack of warmth towards me. Mom is not well, she is hallucinating again. I mentioned it to the staff and they have taken a urine sample to see if she's got an infection. Only last week we were having a laugh in the dining room but today I feel a brick wall between us.
I got hailed on, on the way home. Its snowing now, just lightly but snowing nonetheless. The sun is shining and looks so bright.
Finally, I can say Lucy dogs' tummy is settled. Seems like the natural yogurt has done the trick. Millie dogs scratching is much better. Looks like the change of diet is working.
  • Hi all,
I,m back on the OS wagon again, the kitchen is almost complete, just waiting for gas fitter to plumb in the hob and a damaged drawer front to be replaced - cannot beleive how much I,ve missed proper cooking - and the cost of convenience food is horrific - doubled my grocery spends pretty much.
Dumpling - well done with the weight loss, I wish I had your determination - good on you.
Judi - I hope your DD is okay - poor love x
Okay quick gloat shot of new kitchen - then I promise not to mention it again
  • Islandmaid your kitchen is gorgeous.
Judi, do you feel you could ask for a meeting with the care home manager, just you and her to find out what has happened? You sound as though you have had a good rapport with the staff up to now it would be a shame to lose that.
