A question about : Old CSA Case Problem... Help Please

Hi

I had a case with the CSA many years ago. The last time I received anything was when my daughter was about 15, she's now 27. I gave up trying to get any maintenance for many reasons and gave up trying to give them info.

Anyway, fast forward to June this year I have a phone call out of the blue about CSA collections and I tell them it's irrelevant now and to leave things. Next the DWP call me and I tell them the same thing, they say they'll send a letter for me to sign to close the case down. Letter arrives weeks later saying you didn't return your form, send it back in 2 weeks or we'll chase money from your ex. I didn't get a form so can't return it. Tried ringing but after all this time don't remember security information. Write on the bottom of the letter they sent me telling them not to chase money and return it.

Now I've received another letter saying you didn't return your form we're taking legal action against ex for thousands of uncollected CSA payments.

Help title=EEK! How do I stop them? I don't want any of this stuff raked up again, we've all moved on..... apart from the CSA it seems!

Best answers:

  • is there any particular reason that you dont want the backdated money?
surely you could get it and give it straight to your daughter as it was supposed to be money for her anyway
  • It's just not a part of my life I want to revisit. Also my ex is in a far worse position than me now (some might say that's karma!) and I see no point in causing him stress. I'll talk to my daughter but I'm pretty sure she'll just want it all left now too.
So, if she does want it left, how do I sort out the CSA and stop them dragging everything up?
  • You might not be able to. Are any of the arrears owed to the secretary of state? IE... Were you in receipt of state benefits at any point of claiming?
  • Nope, working and bringing up kids. I had tax credits but not Income support. I just don't understand why now when we needed the money then! Do they get commission or something?
  • No they dont, but they do have more power now to retrieve the money owed.
  • So is there no way I can stop them taking action? Is there a complaints procedure I can follow given its nearly 20 years since they had instruction from me in writing and I've verbally asked them not to continue? Is there any way I can get a form without having to go through the security checks? They're the one's that rang me so they know it's me!
  • When I ring them, I dont' know if I'm going mad but they generally just ask me how money is paid (name of bank), son's DOB, son's middle name, your NI number etc. Which I would hope you can still remember?
If needs be, contact your MP. They can be helpful with the CSA.
  • Yep, the only thing I fall down on for the security check is the bank stuff. Thanks for your help. I think I'll write to them and then get my MP involved if needs be.
    Thanks everyone, much appreciated
