A question about : Old Christmas Cards

Hello everyone

I was wondering what everyone does with their old Christmas cards?

Do you:
recycle them
make gift tags
keep them

Id love to hear what everyone does and what other ideas people have to do with them!

My new years resolution is to be more crafty, so I might make gift tags title=Smile

Best answers:

  • I keep them so i can check next year who i need to send a card to.
  • I usually just put mine in the recycling bin that the council pick up....
  • 2queenlizard45uk Try to search the forum, something like "what to do with Christmas cards". I think last year, but maybe a year before, it was a tread with some craft suggestions and somebody gave a link to how to do 3D balls out of recycled cards. It's really beautiful. Not exactly smoothly round but with edges going out of the surface.
  • I pop mine in the loft and they come out next Christmas with the craft things for the kiddies to cut up and make a mess / gift tags / new cards
  • Keep it I will check next year
  • We neither send nor receive any cards. Won't somebody think of the trees!!
  • I use mine, and my friend's and family's, to make gift tags, toppers for next years cards and gift boxes for small things. They're very useful if you want to get crafty.
  • Recycle the cards.
  • I cut the front of the card off to make gift tags or the game of pairs - cut the picture in half.
  • Really interesting to see what everyone does.
Its also nice to see that most people recycle them in some way
  • I have done magnets from couple of cards I liked. You can buy magnet sprits - it is self-adhesive. Like this one.

I also keep them to send again next year
  • I use most of them for writing shopping lists and then they go in the recycle bin.
  • We make gift tags out of them, like suggested above, funky craft scissors and ribbon the children love doing it.
  • I use some for gift tags too - they're especially good for large presents as you don't often get large giftags
I also use them for shopping lists.
Family ones I now keep until the next year, at least, as you never know when you'll receive the last card or letter from a loved one I treasure an old Christmas card from my Granda which, unusually, I kept - so glad I did as he died a few months after Christmas.
I used to give loads in to the local church as they had a craft group that made up tags and re-worked cards to sell but, sadly, they don't need them anymore as they find the cards don't sell well - such a shame because some of the cards are so pretty or funny.
  • Another vote for gift tags with funky scissors and I used metallic cord from Poundland. All now packed away with the leftover gift wrap for next time.
  • I used to just recycle them but heard about gift tags on here and really wish I had done this instead. Well this years are in the Christmas gift box ready to make tags!
Besides then if won't have to bother with cards to those I'm giving gifts to, as I usually have to post them anyway.
  • I keep them. I put them all inside each other and write the year on the back of each card. That's a bit OTT, but I'd certainly suggest that anybody should keep cards from close family, "in case", because once they're gone you have a need to have back all the things you had from them over the years but have since let go.
