A question about : Ocado Cancelled my Order

Not very happy with Ocado at the moment.

Having a small gathering so ordered a few bottles of fizz, red and beer. Order went through no issues (third order, all my details the same as before) and got an email saying it was cancelled due to not being able to verify my paymrnt details.

This is a lie, Amex confirmed the pre-auth went through no issues.

Phoned them, was actually cancelled because I bought all booze no food and they want a recent council tax statement to proceed.

I was going to do it, then thought no, Im not jumping through hoops for them after they lied to me. They could have just called or emailed me if they had any doubts it was me who placed the order.

Instead I get treated like a criminal.

I have sent a stronly worded complaint email to the Ocado Nazi Online Shopping Police department and will see what comes back.

Best answers:

  • Perhaps they thought you were an under 25 year old and were using your dads/mums card and address to get booze for a wild weekend!
Perhaps they asked for the council tax statement to prove your address and name.
If I was a parent and my youngster was planing something like the above scenario, I would be happy for them to be the Ocado Nazi Online Shopping Police.
Shows they take due care who gets a hold of the alcohol they sell.
  • umm , It would have had to be signed for by an adult NOT A CHILD
  • If it was 100% booze I can see their point.
You are having a gathering that is all booze and no food at all ?
  • No, actually they sent me and the Mrs a voucher each, her a free food bundle and me 20% off. So not to waste either she did the food and I did the booze.
They are being delivered to the same address.
I am obviously over 18 as I wouldnt have an Amex card otherwise, plus am on the electoral role at the adress, and as I said, this is order 3, so they have already sold me alcohol as part of my previous shops.
They could have just asked for ID on delivery.
  • They're just covering their backs. Instead of having a hissy fit, play the game.
By all means, write a strongly worded letter to them after receipt of delivery about the "lies" but otherwise just give them what they need.
  • If an adult was going to be at home to sign for it, I cannot see what it has to do with any shop as to why a customer might only want to order booze!
It's not complulsory to buy food, and all the online food shops say they require is that the amount paid is over x amount.
    I would shop elsewhere....

  • I will see how they respond. Sainsburys Taste the Difference Prosecco is the best prosecco i have tasted and is on offer at the moment so will pop in there if Ocado dont see common sense.
  • Update, I calmed down and sent the docs, they replied and agreed they should not fib to people and gave me a further Ј15 off for that.
    Ocado can retain my custom.
