A question about : O2

Signed a contract with O2 last year at Phones4U, where I got a great deal of a Sony Ericsson T610 for nothing with Ј50 cash back on the O2 Leisure Time for Ј15 a month.

Suits me fine as I only ever use my phone to call at evenings and weekends and to O2 mobiles and this was cheaper than PAYG (bill is hardly ever more than Ј20).

Anyway, the contract is nearly up and I wondered what the best course of action is.

I can't see O2 wanting to bend over backwards to keep me as a customer so what tact should I try. To be honest, I don't mind changing numbers so I am prepared to cancel and then sign another O2 contract to get a free phone. I'm certainly not prepared to pay good money for a mobile.

Any one offer help or advice based on experience?

  • you can keep your number, even if you move to a new provider, just tell o2 you want the pac. i got this advice off the nice people on here. and it worked fine. and you dont pay for it either.
    i was on t mobile, and like you my contract had run out, and i wanted a new phone off them, if i was going to stay with them., but they was on about charging me 140 odd quid for the samsung e800 mobile (thats the one i wanted) they was first telling me i would have to pay 180 odd.
    so i told them to forget it and asked for my pac. they was then saying to me we will give you more texts etc, but i said it was no good. i wanted a new phone, so in the end i moved over to o2, get more texts a month for less the price than i was with t mobile. and i got a brand new samsung e800. so if o2 dont play ball with you, take your custom else where and get a free phone.
    ps, anyone know much about broken messages?. when my mate sends me a picture message, i try and open it and it just says "broken message" and i cant view it, any ideas?
  • Thing is (and I should have made this clearer!), I could actually do with staying on O2 as all majority of mobile calls is overwhelmingly O2 and IMO all cross net deals etc. are a rip off.
  • I spent a lot of time yesterday talking to o2 about the very same issue. Ring customer services and choose the "upgrade "option off the recorded menu. They were willing to improve my deal , but not by much. They offered several slightly different deals, mainly offpeak deals , but were not going to give me a better phone for free.
    offered me a Nokia 6230 for Ј59.99. WhenI turned this down they first offered it for Ј30 then offered it for Ј59.99 but with 2 months line rental free. I kept telling them I could get a better deal from orange. I feel they were fair, they make very little money from me,and they would have offered a free upgrade if my monthly spend was bigger. I am on a Ј20 month contract and make sure i never spend more than this. You have nothing to lose by ringing them.
