A question about : NTL Broadband

Not sure if this is the right board for this, but I received a flyer today saying new users could get 300k broadband with NTL for Ј15-99 a month instead of Ј17-99 a month for the first 12 months.
Now being an existing 300k BB customer I felt it unfair that valued customers weren't getting this discount so phoned them up and complained. They have now altered my account so I get it Ј2 cheaper each month for 12 months. So if you have 300k broadband with NTL phone 0800 052 0422 and tell them you had a mail flyer and want your bill reduced.
I know it is only Ј24 but every little helps.

  • There's a similar thread on the telephones board on how to save even more money!
There's a link to it on todays MSE newsletter
  • I'm already getting the Ј10 discount against phone and TV, so when I rang about this they wouldn't budge.
I did ask though that if I were to cancel my broadband would I still get the Ј10 discount against TV and phone and they said it'd be up to the person who took my call on the day.
My guess is I'd still get the Ј10 discount as it's in place for 12 months even if I went elsewhere for broadband. I might try as Ј17.99 for 300k isn't competitive these days...
  • hi all, just thought id add, i was on the 128kb for Ј15.00pm and told them i wanted to go back to dial up as i didnt use the net much, thay put me through to the customer retention centre and i now pay Ј7.99pm whats more is its now gone up to 300kb for Ј7.99pm for the next year
    happy days
  • What is NTL like for Broadband? With young children can you restrict email like with AOL. I don't want them getting a load of porn and pop ups. Currently they can only get email & pm from a list of names I control. Also they can only access sites suitable for their age. Is the same possible with NTL.
If not do you know about Wanadoo?
    Thanks
  • hi poppy9, not sure about that,
i have outlook express and norton antispam on my pc and it stops porn email etc but you have to teach it what to stop etc.
i used to be on AOL about 7 years ago when i first went on the net and even though i no longer use them for access i can still accces my AOL account online thorough NTL or any other ISP by going to the homepage and logging in.
i even have a stand a lone AOL instant messanger program and can keep in touch with other AOL users just like i was with AOL internet.
so even if you cone to NTL you can let the kids keep their email and instant messaging aol buddies
  • Chris
How do I keep access to my AOL without paying them? Surely when I terminate my account with them they will disable my login/email or can I go onto Pay as you Go sort of thing with AOL?
    Thanks
  • You can get AOL through NTL broadband.
I've had the NTL broadband service for several (three?) years, and it's been good. !Having to re-boot the set top box (which provides the cable tv service, and also contains the cable modem) frequently is a pain, but reliability is generally good.
Their email service has been hijacked though; I get over 200 spams a day on my NTL email account. !Though there's nothing stopping you from using a 3rd-party email service instead, and just using NTL as your connection.
  • I currently have a hotmail email. Boy does that generate junk!
Do you pay to access AOL?
  • i used to use direct debit when i was with aol and then ended my ties with them.
sinse joining NTL i sust surf to www.aol.co.uk and log into my old account and there it is no mney to AOL or anything
anther thing is that email addresses get junk because spammers send email in thounsands to people in lists.
if i got junk mail and looked who else it was sent to the names are all indexed like a phone book.
a good way to counter this is have a more obscure email user name like say chr15@hotmail instead of chris@hotmail.
do you see what i'm saying
