A question about : Notice to newcomers RE: Trolls part 2

As the other thread appears now to be closed, I have started another one. So, as originally posted by So Sad Angel:

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if we have this thread over here on BR board but DFW bump this often so that newcomers new & old are aware of the possibility of `troll` issues.

They `bump` it along regularly to keep it in peoples minds. Perhaps it would work over here?

Pania`s words are so brilliant I could`nt better them myself so I copied as below.

Notice to newcomers re trolls.
Hi everybody.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of troll attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red warning triangle. Click this and then send the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

Kind wishes

  • Thank you peppa! I am so glad you have popped this up again. Just so all those members ( who come to this forum for help and advice ) will be aware that unfortunately there are those who come here, just to inflict their malicious natures upon us. Ignore all trolls, they are not worth the effort. The advice and kindness I have received from this forum have been invaluable, and have nursed me through some very dark days.
    Thank you all

  • Bumping this back to where it should always be....Front page news!
  • Following a few PMs with other members it seems I am not alone in thinking a new phenomona has arisen, that of questions being asked, not by a potential BR, but rather by a so-called adviser who is probably charging someone for advice, and comes on here for an answer to something they dont have, a few have left themselves open to being sussed by means i wont expand on, the sad thing is it means the person/persons WITH the problem is (maybe) parting with cash by way of fees to the poster of thier situation.
It also means there are "financial advisors" out there without a clue....
  • I agree pepa
    A little bump from sizzler,
HI SS if you on line later, thanks for your messages, Im ok, will ba back properly soon.
    BUMP
  • When I first read the posts here, I had no idea what a Troll was. If it wasn't for So Sad Angel's post, I wouldn't have been aware of what was going on over the weekend. I believe that everyone keeping the Troll busy - on the Troll post - it stopped them going on to the other posts and upsetting them, (it was only when they stopped answering the troll he picked on one!) if they hadn't been there God knows what would of happened. Being new here I don't know many of you, but what you all did at the weekend was incredible.
    Thankyou.
  • Just a shame the site team dont realise what you just posted, that seems to have gone over there heads.
We just get told of too
  • I'm just so annoyed they locked the Troll post, alright delete the weekends messages and apologise to the poster he had a go at.
If he had attacked me three months ago I would'n't have come back!! We need people like yourself and those who kept him busy. Surely they can see that !
  • At first I thought just don't respond, don't give the Troll air time, but because he/she had stars, medals (as I call them) and had been thanked so many times the danger was newbies (me included) would think he was speaking for everyone on here. So keeping him busy was a good thing.
The chaos he could of caused would have been terrible, it wasn't just a few hours it was the whole weekend.
  • it's all about wording posts to give an impression of knowledgeable authority.
this can be misleading......especially to those who need advice/support, yet remain lurkers.....
I like to think I recognise those posters whose advice is sound and considered.....and respected......no names, no blackanddecker rucksacks.
The rest of us advise and support based on our personal experiences, surprisingly the more we read, and respond to, the more knowledgeable we too become...
but it will be a sad day when our experts decide to move on...
  • I agree.....time for a new thread a while ago
  • wow - his posts are getting deleted fast tonight....
