A question about : Why do some users behave as if they owned the forum?
I have noticed that some users here, who are not either mods or admin, and some of them have been registered for less than a year, create threads such as: The ultimate XXXXX thread, or The Official 2015 XXX thread.
And then when somebody mentions the same topic on another thread, they act as vigilantes and tell them off for not posting on their thread?
I am not mentioning names at this stage but I could mention that this has happened recently in the Boost your income subforum. In one case a user has been publicly invited to leave the forum (and I have reported it).
Are these users allowed/encouraged by MSE to create official threads? What would prevent me from forking a thread and create my own, without anybody else bullying me?
(Sorry if this sound more like a rant than a question.)
Best answers:
- Forum (board) = community
Board guides have very few powers.
Mods = 'police' (with more rights)
All communities have their informal leaders and customs, conventions, not only laws, courts and police.
If you feel bullied, use button, but first think that maybe the customs and informal rules do make sense and it's easier to adapt rather than defy them and keep calling the police.
