A question about : Old workwear

I left my previous employer about 4 or 5 months ago. I still have some logo'd sweatshirts which we were required to wear as part of their uniform.

The company have never asked for them back and previous employees never returned them. I was verbally told 'keep them' when I left and I honestly can't see anyone else wanting to wear them.

I don't want them. Do you think it's OK to donate them to charity? At what point do unclaimed goods become mine?

Best answers:

  • I would keep them - wear them to do decorating / gardening etc.
I can't see that a charity sop would want them unless you take it to somewhere that pays cash for clothes and they recycle them, then you might get a few pounds.

as long as they have paid all salary holiday pay etc. ....... do what you want with them, if it was me and last company I worked for ......they would be burnt whilst having a beer to celebrate getting out
  • Charity shops can often sell 'rags', so if you don't want them for DIY / gardening I'd pass them on for that purpose.
  • Keep them. After all, the next employer may not supply workwear, so you will be able to use the old stuff instead of ruining your own.
I left a major multi-national company 5 years back and still have 4 sweat shirts and 5 polo shirts. I have worn them at various jobs where no workwear was provided.
At my last posting, I was given a polo shirt with the company logo on due to the fact that their were some highly important visitors coming and they wanted everyone (including agency staff) to wear the same stuff.
That top will be used in other work as an when a new job comes-up.
