A question about : capital one payment

Word to the wise guys.
A red announcement on the capitall one site says they are currently unable to accept debit card payments and to read your T%C's for alternative payment methods.
This could cause grief for those like me that dont use DD but pay each month on line especialy those that dont get paper statements.
Alternative is only BACS as cheques can take as long as 10 days to clear to your account.
No idea if this is a short term thing or what.

  • I noticed that tonight when i loged on to clear my balance. I pay min by DD then clear the rest with my debit card on pay day. Not the best its totally muked up my system for this month. I can't find my silly card reader thing to set up a bacs payment from my current account provider online either.
  • hi,
i have had a bad experience with this one on sunday, i payed mine with debit card as i always do online the warning wasnt there then, once i had done it i got a message unable to process at the moment try later, so i did. tried again same message. on checking online with my bank the two payments had infact been debited from my debit card so i payed twice and cap 1 say they havnt got it. i do have the proof in black and white the payment and where it has gone capital one (europe), same place it always goes!! anyway im in a wrangle with them now over this and have told them straight i am not paying anymore, and i will contest any late payment fees, overlimit charges ect if this isnt sorted. i am not happy with cap1 at the moment and may cancel the card in the end.
  • I sent them a message and the reply was.
" we are aware of the issue with payments and it will be fixed in the near future.please be aware that we will still apply late payment fee of Ј12 if you do not make payment on time. we can do this because we have alternative ways of paying your account. please note it takes 5 days to clear the payment into your account."
bloody taking the pi.ss i think. there system go,s down and we suffer if we don't run around like blue ars.ed flies to sort their problem out.
  • Think you will be ok Louiser, i,m fine my self as my PDD is not till 17th Oct but they muck up and because of that people who use the online payment option and don't check it,s working before hand will get nabbed with late fee.
  • we should start a revolt!! chain ourselfs to the cap 1 building!!! lol
  • I paid my card by debit card on Monday night. I was trying Sunday too but had the same error message.
Checked my current account Tuesday morning and 11, yes eleven, payments had been taken out. My current account has never seen such a big minus number, especially with all my normal payments going out today as it's the first day of the month!
Halifax were kind enough to up my overdraft to cover all of this (I didn't think they would do this due to the huge amount and they're up s*** creek) - so I'll only be charged interest (I never go into the red in my current account).
Capital One gave me me a fax number to send my current account statement to: 0115 843 3652.
The first phone call Tuesday about 6am the Indian chap said wait two-three days and call back. Then online I saw the message saying no debit card payments; causing me to ring back. The second gave me a fax number that was wrong (or I miss heard more likely). After the third phone call I faxed the documents and a covering letter.
I'll let you know how I get on... However I expect compensation for this.
  • To be fair to Capital One you can pay from your current account online thing:

  • Does anybody have a phone number for Capital One which isn't there stupid foreign call centre? Preferably in this country with some authority.
Secondly, does anyone know what compensation we would be entitled too? I would want more than the costs on my bank account.. I will probably send an invoice for 10x fee unauthorised plus interest... Just like they do to us poor mortals.
  • omg, 11 payments!! its abomnable really i sent secure messages through the website and got a reply today saying they can confirm they have the payments but it can take 5 working days to show online on the account!! funny it takes 1 minute to actually have it deducted from my account!!! i would go for compensation def!! and i know what you mean about the forein centres however the replies to my messages were in very good english so im presuming they hit a centre in uk! but can never be sure!! i cant find another number at all apart from lost/stolen number maybe ring that and they may put you through to a dept in uk, worth a shot. good luck
  • Over the last couple of days I have been trying to make payments using my Abbey Visa Debit Card and it kept saying it wasn't possible to make the payment at this time.Yesterday the Call Centre told me there was a problem with Debit Card payments and to wait two hours for it to be fixed. I tried again after two hours and again it didn't work but later it did and I got a confirmation page .
This morning I checked my Abbey Account and THREE payments of the same amount are showing for yesterdays date ...so where do I go now ...Do I ask Cap One if they have the payments as they are only showing ONE on my account as having been received or do I ask Abbey about it ... Right PITA...
  • I paid online on Sunday (due date was today) and the money was taken from my bank account. I logged in today to find that their system obviously didn’t update or recognise that I had made a payment (usually when you make a payment it shows up) and I had been charged a late payment fee. I sent a message using their secure messages service and this was their reply.
    Quote:
  • Well I have sent a secure message asking if they have my extra TWO payments so I'll see what they say first before contacting Abbey .
  • Oh FFS just checked my current account and another two payments have been taken out.
This is a complete joke. You just cannot get through to them, their call centre is inept, the secure message system still says pending. The fax I sent this morning included a letter requesting receipt...
  • Hi FT
I've had nothing but grief from Capital One since day 1 some years ago. They are the reason I no longer operate a DD system anywhere in the banking world.
I always pay all my cards on line and by Bacs and follow the payment up with a check as to when it is credited to the respective account.
The only reason I keep the card active is to pee them off by making lots of use of it and paying the balance 100% each month so they make 0.
They retaliate by refusing me a credit limit increase for the last 5 years LOL.
  • Hi methusala. It wasn't a direct debit it was a debit card payment. There system kept saying that it failed and to try again later.. which I did... 13times over two days until it excepted.
I agree about Direct Debits, I only have one to the gym.
  • Oh, and also I've seen this problem before where it says "we cannot process this payment, please try again later" before.
In June it did this, and on my "pay bill" history it shows failed attempts to pay my bill with a debit card, with the final payment going through. It never took any money out on the failed attempts.
