A question about : New Zealand dollars.

Hi,

I would appreciate any advice on the following matter.

I wish to give my friend in NZ some money, around Ј250. What would the most efficient way to do this? I could transfer money between accounts but guess that the charge for converting sterling to NZ dollars would be quite high? I also know somebody who is travelling out there soon, so could ask them to take a bankers draft or something. If doing this option, is it possible to get the bankers draft in NZ dollars and would that be better than sterling? Is there some other way that I haven't even considered? I did consider converting the money and asking the person travelling to take it, but I thought it was unfair to ask them to carry that amount.

Thanks in advance.

  • It depends on how much you trust the friend who is going out. Give them the 250 or put it in their account in GBP and ask them to withdraw it from the cash machine in NZ when they are there and pay it to the person you owe it to.
You may have to agree with UK friend about conversion rates between when you pay it in and when he draws it out, but the rate changes very little it will be cheaper than a bank transfer fee.
Have you spoken to your bank about an international transfer and confirmed the rate, I've done it the other way and it wasn't as expensive as I thought.
