A question about : New headphones

Hi there, hope this is the best place for this request.
Can anyone recommend some half-decent headphones for my MP3. My second set of Sennheiser PX100 has broken after 12 months (rather like my previous set).
Would welcome some guidance - thanks

  • Oops - well spotted Googler - half a post -doh !
Over ear, not too bulky cos I use them when walking etc. Not usually used for music but radio and podcasts.
    Thanks Cisco001 - will take a look
  • My Sennheisers and Beyer Dynamics have lasted since the 1970s, but with indoor use only.
They'd normally be my first recommendation, but you're using them outdoors, I take it ....
  • Yes mainly outdoor, either walking or gardening. I wonder if the problem is the Sennheisers are the folding ones and its really easy to catch the wire in the hinges. They do sound good but its a bit expensive replacing them every year
  • I'm am currently researching replacements for my AKG26Ps. I have tried the AKG K347 as they are bud but the sound is nothing compared to the on-ears - And they are roughly twice the price.
I am quite impressed by the AKG K450s - they ar elittle bit bulkier than my K26Ps but have a very good sound.
  • Thanks for your suggestions - still haven't decided which to go for.
  • Have decided to try the AKG K420. Although the K451's have very good reviews there are too many comments about them not staying on when exercising for me to risk them.
    Thanks again for your input
  • I'm buying all my headphones from Sainsburys....no matter what I buy they never seem to last longer than 6 months...and it helps that Sainsburys guarrantee all their electrical equipment for 1 year
  • Thats a good plan
    I'll bear that in mind
  • Buy a soldering iron and repair the leads yourself.
  • See if you can get the Sony mdr-ex1000 earbuds. Around Ј700 new but should be able to get them used for about Ј400.
Grado are good quality cans but expect to pay Ј1400+ for good ones.
  • Avoid beats audio at any costs. Total waste of money. All you will get from them is a lack of spacial detail, sibilance and wooly bass.
  • Beats are all marketing style over substance.
  • I'd recommend trying Koss KSC75. I've had two pairs of the previous model KSC35 for >10 years and they're brilliant. They clip on your ears so as long as you can get them comfy (everyone's ears are different) they'll stay on through any kind of activity. More importantly, they sound amazing for the price. The lifetime warranty is nice, too.
  • What's your preference in style and budget?
From my experience, ones with a right angle jack last a lot longer than ones with the standard jack.
The protruding jack/cable connection is usually the first area to wear out if placed in pockets whilst walking, once it wears out one earphone will lose connection, shortly followed by the second.
Sometimes the little details make the world of difference.
  • I tried some Beats Headphone in Curry's months back and I really wanted a pair, but I didn't feel the price was good for the quality... I then tried a pair of Sony MDR-ZX600 also in Curry's last week and I felt the sound was much better... so I purchased them for Ј39.99 in the Curry's Sale... I am well impressed with them... The price has gone back up now to Ј44.99 and previously they were priced at Ј69.99.
Think Amazon have them cheaper at the moment though.
I should add I normally use inner ear phones and have a pair of Sennheiser which I think were Ј29.99 but they are two years old now, still work and I still swear by them for quality!
