A question about : Nationwide bank charges (6+ years ago)

Hi there - I'm new to these forums but I'm hoping I can get some advice from you

I used to bank with Nationwide and closed my account a few (more than 6) years ago.

My debt with them accumulated to around 700 pounds. This was because they happily upped my overdraft whenever I went in to the branch and asked them. Simply because I couldn't keep up with my lifestyle at the time with the income I had at the time. My income was around 800 a month, my overdraft was 700. You can imagine that I lived in overdraft for a year or two until I asked them to freeze my account so that I could pay the debt off. This then moved on to debt collectors (Moorecroft?) and I finally paid them off

The bit that stung the most was my contract with Vodafone. If I didn't have the money in my account (Ј30 monthly contract) then I would get a charge from vodafone (Ј30 for bouncing direct debit) and a charge from Nationwide (Ј30). Vodafone would try to take the money out of my account THREE times before defaulting on it (30+30*3 = Ј180 in charges!) which pushed me further in debt. This happened for many months.

It's been a long time since I have thought about doing something about this and I hope that I'm not doing this too late. I'm wondering what advice you could give me in order to see if I can claim back these overcharges

As I said I haven't had anything to do with Nationwide for years so I hope I'm not too late.

Look forward to hearing from the community

With Regards
James
