  • I've registered.
Hopefully the bit about if you earn 10k you can only transfer 600, etc. simply means adding to my husband's tax code and lowering mine. Otherwise it sounds like a faff.
  • Also, the Telegraph saying this only applies to those on a low income is annoying for those who jointly earn half or less of the maximum earnings a couple can have in order to take advantage of this allowance! Rude of them!

  • I earn 42,500 a year with my bonus however I have a company car and the benefit in kind is about another Ј6k on that. Does this mean I wouldn't be eligible?
  • OK, I'm confused already. Is it "income" or "taxable income"? There's a big difference. I should be just into the Higher Rate bracket but after SIPP pension contributions it takes me back down to lower rate. Does anybody know if I qualify or not?
  • Thanks, that was the answer I was hoping for. It would be better if both MSE and HMRC just used the term "basic rate tax payers" instead of describing it as those with an "annual income of between Ј10,601 and Ј42,385" if you can earn more than that and still qualify.
  • I notice the Telegraph article mentions Ј1060, has this been confirmed by HMRC yet as the last mention seems to be Ј1050 for 15-16 and 10% in following years.
  • How does this work if only one person works. My husband works earning approxЈ30000 a year . I am a stay at home mum - do both people have to be earning?
  • I have registered - but it doesn't make clear whether registration is needed in order to benefit ....
If it is - then the government needs to advertise this fact more widely.
What, for example happens to people without internet access ?
  • What happens if at the beginning of the year you forecast that you have some unused allowance and transfer this to your spouse, only to find at the end of the year your income has increased and you no longer have this unused allowance?
  • Reading this I need to be married or in a civil partnership to claim my OH allowance. Is that right? We are neither of those things, and have no intention of changing. Been living together over almost 8 years (longer than quite a few marriages I know off)
  • That's right.
Please don't change your cohabitation 'cause then I pay less tax.
