A question about : Mother Hiding Information About Death

Morning All,

Just looking for some advice on where I can go as im completely out of depth!

My mom and dad are going through a messy divorce its been two years now and nothing is sorted. My dad owns a house around 160k this mortgage is paid off however he is still legally married to my mom so she is fighting for half.

However to add a spanner in the works my Grandad died a year ago and she is soon to inherit his full estate. But she will not provide us with a copy of the will she wont tell us solicitors the probate is with she is keeping everything to herself.

There are only 4 people entitled to my Grandad's estate us three kids and my mom - what rights do we have to try and contact a solicitor or find out where probate is going through?

My mom is just being overly greedy wanting half my dads house and then all of my Grandads 400k estate as well - me and my sisters want this resolved and to move on with our lives but she dosent want to tell us anything

Any Advice would be greatly helpful!!

Thank you

Best answers:

  • You can search to see if probate has been applied for and get a copy of the will, if so, here. This is a confidential search so your mother and any solicitor acting as executor would not know you have done so.
Is it possible your mother is worried about losing half her inheritance to your father? It's unlikely given the date of your father's death in relation to their split.
  • If in Scotland grandchildren do inherit part of moveable estate.
