A question about : Mortgage ended, ppi still running?

I took out a mortgage with my now ex husband in 1990. This mortgage ended in 1997 when we moved house and took up another mortgage. I have been paying a small payment of Ј3.22 (currently) for what I thought was some life insurance thing, not really knowing where it came from ever since november 1990. It has suddenly dawned on me that this is payment protection from the above mortgage that we were told we had to have when we took out the mortgage. Can't believe I havent connected this before, but because it is so historic, (well the mortgage bit is) can I do anything about this? Who would be at fault here, the mortgage company or the ppi company? I have no record of mortgage details now but do have full policy info from the ppi company.
Any thoughts on this would be great please.

  • Thanks dunstonh. I thought It may be my own fault for not realising amd cancelling it when the mortgage finished. The policy we were told was to cover the ammount that the mortgage was for, in case I guess we were unable to pay for some reason. Now that I have dug out some very old letters it seems it is indeed a 'life policy' to cover the Ј9,500 mortgage we had back in 1990. I'm guessing there is little point me continuing to pay this.
Thanks again for taking the time to give me your take on this.
