A question about : microsoft update

I have windows 8 on laptop which is a waste of space, it has been asking me to update to 8.1 for nearly 12 months which I have cancelled every time. Today it has updated automatically and it has taken 4 hours and has wiped all my apps out.

Best answers:

  • It stinks and they know it stinks that's why they are going straight to windows 10 to distance it from the dog pooh that is windows 8/8.1.
Who needs all those stupid "tiles" that keep updating news, weather etc. While it may be ok just to play with on a touch screen it is totally useless for any proper use.
  • problem is they'll start saying programs wont be compatible unless u upgrade thats how they get you
  • I was told it was carp and it is totally carp. I too said "no" so many times to the update, then like yours it did it automatically it took hours and kept rebooting after each bit.
My poota has not been the same since
  • Install 'classic shell' to emulate Windows7
  • People hated 8. 8.1 was STREETS ahead of 8. I updated to that in a heartbeat instead of saying no to it. Reviews of 8 were poor - reviews of 8.1 have been largely positive.
It's funny how people hate the tiled layout - but love an iOS on iPad/iPhone, or Android - which has a very similar (albeit smaller tiled) layout.
Are you aware you can change the setting to 'boot to desktop' instead of 'boot to start screen' if you prefer that for a non-touch machine?
  • Bah. Windows Updates have always caused more trouble than any viruses that have infected my computer over the years! They seem to cause more problems than they fix.
  • Wait until you get the "tile" effect bookmarks update for those using Chrome. The worst thing ever and despite all the complaints they still have not changed it back to the workable list style of bookmarks.
