A question about : Meal Deal at Booths

title=JumpingTop quality Meal Deal for 2 people = Ј10.

Moneysavers might be interested in the following deal running in the North West retailer Booths Supermarkets until November 26th: Basically the deal is Ј10 for a meal for two but unlike some of the recent offerings from larger retailers the products in this deal are actually really good! (trust me I've tried most of them several times!). Listed below to give you a flavour of what's on offer. I saw this in the store at Chorley near Manchester but there are lots of others in the region that I assume will all have the offer.

anyone know of anything else like this?

Best answers:

  • Not wanting to be hyper-critical, but I doubt that a ready-meal retailing at an original price of 2 quid can be described as top-quality. It will most likely be full of fat, salt and sugar...
  • The ready meals were launched quite recently and I guess the price is to entice you. personally I'm a big fan of Booths and I often shop there- they were recently voted the second best supermarket in the world by the Grocer magazine. Particularly strong on local sourcing etc... So to have such low prices at the moment is a real bonus! The ready meals use british meat etc..., at least waitrose quality or better in my opinion. can't say any more than that really...
you don't need to take my word for it - you'll just have to try them!
  • Now I wonder whose food will be better quality, some supermarket that I've never even heard of, or Marks & Spencer...
  • I wonder indeed. McDonalds is a bigger brand than M&S so perhaps you'd better go there for your evening meal.
  • Perhaps I should explain it in smaller words for you? Marks & Spencer have a dine for Ј10 offer.
  • so do various other retailers (including Ronald), but none come close to Booths in terms of quality (including M&S). That's why if you think the M&S deal is good (and I agree it is) then this one is absolutely top notch. Like I said - have a read of the Grocer if you think I'm unduly biased.
  • Booths food rocks! they`re in the northwest and cumbria i think, but its real quality stuff. What i like about it, apart from my local store being 5mins walk away, is pensioners etc can just buy single items because they sell a lot of their produce loose. Also have a good deli, butchers, bakery and all the staff are lovely.
  • Booths is really good; I particularly like their alcohol section. You can get all kinds of weird and wonderful harder-to-find items, which tend to be excellent quality. They are mainly NW based but have at least one branch over the pennines (Ilkley) and also have a branch at Kirkby Lonsdale (is that North Yorks, Lancs, or Cumbria?)
  • I think the significance of this post has been lost in some people not being aware of the standing of Booths. As has been pointed out, they are a quality retailer. I am familiar with the variety of goods and prices offered by the majority of mainstream and discount retailers. We have a Waitrose 15 minutes walk away; Booths about a 15 minute drive away. I would rate the general quality and price of goods generally in terms of, or better than, Waitrose. The range of local and other more unusual items in Booths is very good. (On a particular note of interest) compared to other supermarkets, Booths offer a wide and very different range of beers, and when on special offer, can be exceptionally good value.
It is rather naive to dismiss this offer on the basis that it is "cheap" (I use the term loosely) and therefore nasty i.e. must be full of fat and sugar, and assuming that simply because Booths is a regional retailer and relatively unknown that it doesn't offer the same quality as a better known brand e.g. M&S. Booths, offers at least, if not greater quality compared to M&s.
My guess is Booths is using this as a loss-leader (or probably more realistically, as a marginal profit maker) simply trying to gain a foothold in the current "dinner 4 2 4 a tenner" market.
I hope to take advantage of this offer.
  • There does not seem to be a vegetarian choice with Booths.
  • I personally think its a bit nasty that a new poster comes on here and is treated in this way!
    Jonty007 we`re not all like that .
  • "Roger Rampant" - your response is a classical one from the small group of sad, self-satisfied, smug types who post on here under their guise of anonymity dedicated to trying to belittle other peoples' posts and opinions in a futile attempt to try and bolster their self worth.
"I have to say that I agree 100% with somebody who says 'I doubt that a ready-meal retailing at an original price of 2 quid can be described as top-quality. It will most likely be full of fat, salt and sugar...' "
So you simply agree simply with someone's assumptions 100% - ever thought about checking the facts? (Though I would have thought that anyone with your limited intellectual capacity would have agreed at least 110%).
"as your main courses is hardly likely to give you a gourmet following anyway."
They're flogging pig's trotters in the posh places now!
"But if that's what people in the Northwest really want..."
Why have you assumed I live in the Northwest? I neither live there, nor am I originally from there.
Yes - supermarket ready meals are typically associated with high fat, salt and sugar content- M&S included. These meals could be as well. But I would view this as an occasional, cheap-and-cheerful treat. I do not subsist on such items.
How apposite that "roger rampant" is an anagram of "arrogant pram", though an anagram of "ignorant plonker" would have been even more so.
You've got to laugh at the idea of a self-styled epicurean and all-round arbiter of good taste admitting to living in Northamptonshire!
I won't bother with the smiley face - though I am having a good laugh at you.
  • I cannot believe some people. Booths is probably the highest quality chain of food supermarkets in the country if not the world. If you care to visit any of their stores you will find an excellent range of the highest quality food and drinks anywhere. The range of cooked meats, cheeses, fresh meats, fruit and vegetables is exceptional - when did you last see calabrese in the average supermarket? I have just posted their malt whisky offer and feel that this cannot be beaten anywhere - if I am wrong please tell me. As Bob Dylan once said "Don't criticise what you can't understand".
  • Don't worry about the ignorant people, up here we have Booths and they're just jealous because they're missing out.
