A question about : Madasafish Questions/answers (merged threads)

I am currently taking Martin's advice and switching to madasafish broadband.

They promise speeds of 8Mb a minute, but when I enter my number in their signing-up section, it indicates that my local area (Euston) has an estimated running speed of 2Mb.

Does anyone know if this means I'll be paying for 8Mb but only receiving 2Mb?

Thanks

Best answers:

  • Yes that is the maximum your area can do at the moment
  • Euston should be up to 8meg from March 31st:
    https://www.samknows.com/broadband/ex...hp?ecode=CLEUS
This is the date when BT launch their MAX service providing up to 8mb for most broadband enabled exchanges. Before now you have only been able to get 8meg on LLU - Local Loop Unbundling where a ISP will put their own equipment in the exchange instead of BTs (which had a max of 2meg). But from 31st March most BT equipment in exchanges will be able to go up to 8meg.
    I sound like a poor press release don't I?
  • Yes but BT are upgrading exchanges to 8mb from 31st March 06. You can check here in respect of this https://www.samknows.com/broadband/index.php
You need to go to the Exchange Search link under availability on the left hand side and enter the name of your local exchange if you know it. On the results page look for ADSL Max Enable Date. from that date you should be able to get 8mb on Madasafish as they will use your BT line to provide the service.
  • Hello All,
As a side note: for those who are on exchanges whose current MAX speed is 2Mb, that (of course) will be the maximum speed you will be able to receive when you sign up (as noted in this thread).
All Madasafish customers on the Max and Max Plus products whose current fastest speed at their exchange is 2Mb will be upgraded free of charge to the speeds up to 8Mb when the service becomes available.

  • Thanks very much for that.
Samara - could you tell me why the advertised price with the promo code is Ј10.99 for the first six months but I'm on the madasafish signup page now and it's quoted me a sign up of Ј16.98. I understand how this breaks down, so no need to go into that, but could you explain whether this extra cost will be reflected in future bills etc.?
  • Hello Larsony,
    Happy to explain:
Your next five invoices will be for Ј10.99 a month, the following six invoices will be for Ј16.99 a month. This is provided that you do not exceed the 5GB usage allowance.
When you enter the promotion code 'cheaper' during sign up, you get the first six months for Ј10.99 a month and then the following six months for Ј16.99 a month.
When you sign up and use this promotion code, your bill will be:
Ј10.99 for your first month of service
Ј5.99 Postage and Packing on the Router
    TOTAL: Ј16.98
To quickly explain the billing; you are billed for your first month of service when you sign up. Your billing period doesn't actually start until your services go live, so you aren't actually paying for the time that you weren't online with us.
I hope that all makes sense.
    Kind regards,
    Samara

  • Thank you all - according to the website we go to 8meg on March 31st. As we are with madasafish (who are very good by the way) then our connection speed should increase automatically
  • Just got email from Madasafish saying I was live. However I have done nothing to my Netgear modem router and haven't inputted any username or password but am accessing BB OK. Am I really shot of "that dreadful other company"?
  • greetings,
just wanted to check if madasafish support the following modem below for there tecnical support line and will the modem i have support speeds up to 8mb?
    bt voyager 105 usb modem
also if i take the free bt 210 router on your website and i do decide to migrate to madasafish from my isp newnet at the moment if i decide to migrate from madasafish in the first 12 months will i have to also pay the Ј25 cancellation fee and also a charge of Ј39.99 for the router? or am i able to return the router to madasafish?
cheers for any help and advice anyone can give me!
  • I have merged three threads together for ease of reading about Madasafish.
  • Hello Msampson,
We support the Voyager 105, which does handle speeds up to 8Mb.
If you migrate in and you wish to cancel within the first 12 months, the cancellation cost is Ј25 + the cost of any free hardware taken. I'm afraid that we do not accept returns on used hardware.
I'm proud of our services and I'd be pretty certain to say that you won't want to leave us for 12 months or even after 12 months!
    Kind regards,
    Samara

  • Hello Sloughflint
Even though your service is migrated over, you will still be able to connect to your previous supplier until your router drops the connection. You’ll need to disconnect your router. When it is reconnected use your new Madasafish broadband username and password to connect to the Internet.
Once you’ve established that you have connected to Madasafish Broadband, get in contact with your old ISP and ensure that they’ve cancelled your service. I would recommend emailing them the following:
    Dear Sir or Madam,
    Re: Account
I would like to confirm that I have been migrated away from your services. I would be grateful for confirmation that you have cancelled my subscription and ceased my billing.
    Thank you

If you call them make sure that you note the name of the person you spoke to and the time/date that you called. I say this as I have seen many incidents where customers continue to be billed by their old ISP and it would be beneficial for you to keep records of who you spoke to and when.
    Kind regards,
    Samara
  • Hi all,
Just wondering whether there will be any changes to Madasafish packages after 31st March?
I know they deal with MSE for BB at Ј10.99 for first 6 mths and Ј16.99 for next 6 mths runs out saving a total of Ј12 without MSE link.
Question is, with 8MB coming live in most places after 31st March, do you expect to see a over-hauling of packages on offer as well.
    Any 'insider' knowledge Samara?
    Manik
  • Hello Manik,
On the 31st of March, our prices will revert back to Ј11.99 a month for the first six months and then Ј17.99 a month thereafter. That is still an exceptional value considering that we include a lot of freebies in our package that other ISPs charge for; free .co.uk domain name, free static IP address, free webspace, free giganews account...even our free router is of a high spec.
Could you please elaborate on "Question is, with 8MB coming live in most places after 31st March, do you expect to see a over-hauling of packages on offer as well"?
    Kind regards,
    Samara

  • To elaborate..
Trend suggests that as download speed gets faster, the lower spec packages either become cheaper or the download allowance increases.
    Hence, the question is:
Is it worth waiting to see whether ISP providers move in one of these two directions therefore play the waiting game to get a better deal?
Can't actually forsee a price rise for current packages, therefore at worst it will cost you an extra Ј12 per year for the Max package if you miss the 31st March deadline for the MSE link.
On the other hand, the gains could be worth much more if you wait and new packages are offered with better terms.
Any idea of what Madasafish will do Samara?
    Manik
  • Manik im the same as you not sure wether to wait or not as some other providors probably have new deals with these new speeds after tomorrow
