A question about : Joke Management

Hi all,

I helped a colleague return to work a few weeks ago.

I worked out-of-hours to do this. I phoned him loads of times, texted him and sent emails.

I even agreed with management that I would manage his work for a few weeks even though it was not my job to do this. I provided mentoring and coaching to him when he returned.

Amazed and disappointed that my management refused to compensate me for my phone costs or to give me any time off work.

What have I done ? Simple answer is that I have taken extra long lunch breaks. Go to staff restaurant and then have a long walk outside. Our clocking in/out system only records when you go outside the building. It does not show how long you spend in the restaurant.

I have spent up to 1.5hrs during my lunch break over the last few weeks; so I have actually recovered my time and more as well effectively recovering my phone call costs with my lunch breaks. For P&C reasons, I work cross-shifts and do not have anyone managing me. For info, I am only entitled to a 1hr lunch break each day.

Do I feel guilty ? NO I don't. If my management had acted with integrity, they would have acted properly.

Roll on next week

Best answers:

  • Did you offer to help them or did management come to you about it?
  • You should have arranged agreements before hand rather than going to them afterwards.
And ultimately, if your employers find out you are falsifying your time sheets expect disciplinary action to occur
  • Riveting tale. In a similar vein, I stayed late on Tuesday so finished early yesterday. Yay!
  • They won't find out lol !! How can they when I am not managed or monitored ?
For those taking the moral high ground, I repeat that I do not feel guilty lol !!
    BTW, we don't do timesheets.
  • Anyone spot a troll around here?
Does this sort of person genuinely sound like the sort who would actually volunteer to help someone who wasn't themselves?
    It's half term isn't it?
