A question about : Joint application, single registered owner?

Just wanted some thoughts on this situation.

My girlfriend and i are in the process of remortgaging the property that I bought with my ex in 2007. So far so good, but I've just received the transfer of equity docs from the conveyancer and I noticed that they were for transfer from single to joint ownership. I was sure they were mistaken, so queried it with them. They told me that I am the sole registered owner on the title docs, which I've since confirmed, and has been the case from the day the mortgage was completed in 2007.

That mortgage was with Northern Rock, so I've contacted them (NRAM). They say that it shouldn't be possible, and that they're going to need to make inquiries, and get back to me in 5 to 7 working days.

Does anyone know if this will effect my/our existing mortgage in any way? I've got the original offer, and it is definitely in both names.

We also had a Ј30000 unsecured loan, regulated by the CCA 74, so it seems like there's been a few mistakes made!

Thanks in advance

Best answers:

  • Whos name(s) is the mortgage under?
  • The current mortgage is in my ex girlfriend's and my name. But for some reason it's just my name on the deed. I've only just noticed after 8 years!
  • That is possible. You can be named on the mortgage but not the title deeds. But not the other way round.
Why it's happened isn't relevant as matters stand. As no doubt your new partner will wish to be named on the title deeds.
