A question about : Jobseeker Direct

I'm trying to find out Jobseeker Direct's geographical telephone number.

A request through saynoto0870.com has proved fruitless so far, so I was wondering if fellow MSE'rs could provide further assistance.

The darn thing seems to be well hidden! title=Mad

Hi everyone

I'm trying to find out the geo number for Jobseeker Direct, 0845 6060 234 [edit]

I'm helping out a few people getting a job and past experiences meant major queuing periods. I'd like to use the service from home through 18866 so, using a geo, the call would be free (well, 2p... )

The search facility comes up with 0151 353 4701. This is Jobcentre Plus 'New Claims' which is quite useful, but not Jobseeker Direct.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks.

It shouldn't be this difficult...

Best answers:

  • Use www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk instead, the same jobs are on there.
Jobseeker direct all work in local call centres but I think you have to call 0845 no as this is only no jobcentres are allowed to call (well it is where I am).
Some jobcentres have phones where you can call them from if this helps, but obviously only within jobcentre opening hours.
  • As Jobcentre Plus staff are targeted, most staff will ususally be pleased to sub you to a job. If you have an adviser they would rather you called them than Jobseeker Direct. If you get the job they get points, and what to points make..........
Call your local Jobcentre Plus or you adviser direct and quote the job reference number and you national insurance number, and they will tell you what to do from there on in.
  • https://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk - it's a known bug, but this web site only works on certain versions of Internet Explorer running on Windows. https://www.worktrain.gov.uk uses the same data and runs on many more browsers.
Of course - for most jobs, you'll still be expected to phone the 0845 number. Or visit your local jobcentre. But be warned. If you're in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, you've got to be on your guard about possible sanctions.
Assuming that you're still in your first six months of unlinked unemployment, the worst possible sanction for not bothering to apply for jobs at all is four weeks - and you don't usually get sanctioned at all unless you've received a so-called "direction" and failed to comply with it. And these are very unusual in the early stages of unemployment anyway.
However, the worst possible sanction for not following up a job you found out about from the DWP database is - wait for it - 13 weeks! So you must not ask about jobs from the Jobcentre at all unless you are very sure you will want to follow the whole process through, and actually accept the job if you get offered it.
It's very difficult to make this decision based on the information you see on the jobcentre plus web site - so, the best bet is, don't use it at all. Instead, you should source your jobs from the local paper, or informal networking within professional associations (if you're a member of one), and by checking directly with major employers such as NHS Trusts and local authorities. I suggest https://www.oultwood.com for local authority information, and NHS Direct for information on NHS organisations near you.
You could also try employment agencies - but I'd suggest you only do that in the later stages of unemployment. If you do register with any employment agencies, then don't tell the jobcentre - otherwise, they may check up on it, and you may find you get a sanction for refusing temporary work.
If your Jobseeker Agreement already says you need to apply for X number of jobs from the jobcentre - it's hard to change it. So put it down to experience - and next time you become unemployed, make sure it doesn't go into your jobseeker agreement in the first place.
I suggest https://www.urban75.com/Action/Jsa/jsa2.html for more info.
