A question about : I've got print at home tickets

We have tickets for the athletics next Monday.

I live in London within the travelcard zone. But apparently I need to pick up my free travelcard from the venue (Stratford). But I'll need to pay to get there!

My SIL is going to the cycling there tomorrow. Could she pick them up for me?

Or failing that, could I go pick them up at the weekend, either from Stratford or the one in Horseguards Parade? I know I'll have to pay, but I could combine the trip with something else.

Thanks

  • Well, you would have had to pay Ј6 delivery charge for the free travelcard so you haven't really lost anything. You can collect from any venue but you can only collect in person as you need photo id and your bankcard (though they may be laxer for the Paralympics?)
  • To pick up tickets it needs to be the person who booked the tickets with photographic id and the visa card used to book the tickets. Whether they will let someone else take the travecards I don't know but if your SIL can get there it's worth a go.
I had the same situation with tickets for two events at the Olympics. I was in London last week so I picked up my Paralympics tickets then with travelcards.
What I did for the olympics is just used my Oyster card for the single journey to pick up the tickets on the day and then after that we used the travel cards.
It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, so enjoy.
  • Thanks everyone. I've found a better answer to my question: https://www.getaheadofthegames.com/news/1380.html
I can just travel with my print at home tickets for free! Hurrah!!!
  • Hi, I'm meeting up with a friend in central London and going to the athletics. I've paid for the 2 paralympic tickets. Can he print out my ticket confirmation and travel free on TfL without me?
  • Hi - I got tickets for the athletics next monday and have confirmation email but have not been able to get onto the website since to print out my actual print at home tickets? What did you do??
  • I'm in the same situation. I gather the tickets are sent in a separate email from the confirmation, in PDF format. If I don't get mine soon (next 24 hrs) I will ring them.
  • So, can I travel on the tube with my print at home ticket in the morning, then return again at night, or do I need a travelcard for that?
  • The information on the website isn't very clear:
'...TfL have recognised that some people need to collect their Paralympic tickets from venues on the day of their event. In those cases TfL staff will allow spectators to travel on services operated by TfL as long as they have a print out ticket or confirmation they have purchased Paralympic tickets for that day'.
Surely someone with a print out ticket is not one of 'those cases'...and yet they (we!) can apparently travel all day without a travelcard.
  • Unless you take the first bit to mean '...to collect their Paralympic tickets and/or travelcards from venues on the day of their event', in which case it all makes sense.
  • Yes hopefully that should be ok, although I don't fancy queueing at the Olympic stadium...
Incidentally, does anyone know if the central London ticket collection office can be used for tickets for all venues?
  • Hope all goes well tomorrow - enjoy. Let us know how you got on xx
  • Yes, I hope everyone has a great time. I'm really looking forward to it!
  • I've got into the page this morning but its not much different to the confirmation e-mail.
  • My email with the PDF tickets arrived this morning, so it was about 38 hours after the confirmation email.
  • my ticket email has not turned up, my mrs and kids set off this morning from doncaster, hope they can get in
i thought this print your own tickets would be fine, ordered tickets off the web site yesterday thought the print tickets email would be with by late last night, but no
  • Update on my post yesterday.....
The print at home tickets email was received at 6am today. I printed the tickets off (successfully). Also took a copy of that webpage saying that you could travel for free.
I had no trouble in getting through the barriers - just waved the email confirmation, and they let us through. On arrival at Greenwich Arena, I went to the ticket collection booth (to collect our travelcards) - no queues at all! Also, no queues for the security or the ticket checkpoint.
I asked where we could fill up our water bottles, and they said any food/drink stand - again, no queues. Waited to get access to the seating area (which opened 45mins before the game started) and we were in. We could sit wherever we wanted. I thought we'd end up with seats at the top, but we could have sat in the front row (we decided on a few rows back).
    We had a great day!
A couple of tips.... the Javelin train is lovely and gives quick access to Olympic Park. We thought it may be quicker to take it, and then get a jubilee line train 3 stops to Greenwich - we were wrong!! Whilst it takes you close to Olympic Park, it is like a 10-15 minute walk to the jubilee line from the Javelin station (you have to walk through the whole of Westfield, then over a bridge and down the other side). If travelling to Greenwich from Kings Cross, I recommend you take the northern line southbound and then change to the jubilee line. The arena is literally 2 minutes from the station.
If watching basketball, blocks 110,111 and 112 will give you a view from the side, although most seats give a good view anyway.
    Have fun!
  • Pinkzebra, glad you had such a great time!
The lady at my local tube station confirmed to me tonight that I could just wave my etickets and get through the barriers. She said 'don't worry about getting out at Stratford, the staff are just shovelling people through!!' so I guess the barriers are just open!
Watching the swimming tonight in preparation for the big day on Sunday. These athletes are amazing. Can't believe that some of them get out of wheelchairs to then swim a race! What an inspiration.
