A question about : Insurance company added a claim against my policy without my knowledge

hi all, i found out recently when going through my bank statement that my home insurance premium had gone up significantly and and called barclays and they said that this can be due to various factors and they will see if they can make an offer.

as i was talking to them, it was mentioned that i had made a claim in sep 2013 and therefore this could have affected my premium. so i asked them to transfer me to the claims department and it turns out - they have applied a claim against my policy that i didn't claim and the the claims officer was even trying to make me believe that this shouldn't have affected my premium and the customer services presentative may be able to help me to reduce my premium as i am a loyal customer.

so i asked more questions about this and found out eventually that what the claims person was saying is untrue and she was trying to make me go away. I asked the customer service to record a complaint and then they came up with a number of discount options on my current policy - they want to give me discounts on my current premium. i have asked them to email it to me and also progress the complaint at their end.

i'm very disappointed and angry that they have applied a claim on my policy without my knowledge and then taken my money for the last year on higher premium and i accidentally find out because i called to check my policy details.

please advise what are my rights here?. should i be getting a compensation for what they have done to me here. Can i ask them to reimburse my money back with interest and compensate for the inconvenience they have caused.

please help, what my next steps should be to exercise my rights and get the right compensation for what they have done to me.

many thanks for your help

  • Goodness!
I would be very upset too. The claim needs to be removed from your files.
Do you have legal cover via your insurances/union? I have free legal cover for millions with at least two insurance policies.
I would ask my legal team whilst waiting for a written reply.
  • Why does everyone seek "compo" these days?
For me, the Insurance Company certainly needs to correct their files and reimburse any out-of-pocket expenses. As for "compo", that's just paid for by increased prices for everyone else
