A question about : Incorrect payment=bank charges-please help!

I have used the teaching internet site Teachit for a few years. I moved schools back in 2007 and instead of paying the subscription myself, I found out our department has one so emailed and cancelled my account. Recently I received an email stating I would be charged for my yearly subscription. I emailed saying I had already cancelled and could they please make sure this was the case. I heard nothing back until I sent noficcation from the B.O.S. saying Teachit had taken my fees and as I do not use the account anymore, I was-of course!-being charged the princely sum of Ј58.00. I emailed straightaway and asked what was going on. Teachit sent an email saying sorry, here's a refund. I double-checked with the bank and the charges still stood. I asked Teachit to refund the charges as well but they have said it's all my fault and tough luck; here's their response:
I'm afraid that we would not be able to accept responsibility for paying your bank charges as you've requested. Under our terms and conditions, we do actually state that we are not obliged to refund subscriptions (due to the nature of being a download site) , but we made an exception in your case and did refund the subscription charges. We try to make it clear that it is your responsibility to maintain the Worldpay account in regard to regular payments and send out a number of reminder emails to warn you that your subscription is due. Unfortunately we can find no record of a previous request from you to cancel your membership which may have given us time to cancel it in time, but as our office hours are weekday only your email on the evening of the 24 April did not give us sufficient time before it was renewed on the 26 April.
Are they right? I did everything I could to cancel the account, don't know what to do!
Thanks,
