A question about : HSBC Currency Transfer refund

I lived in the Middle east for some time and banked with HSBC. They contacted me in November saying they had reviewed their currency transfer policies and they felt that some charges were not clear and that they would be sending me a refund of approximately AED 1200 (200 Pounds).

They have now sent me a cheque with an accompanying letter stating if they do not hear from me in 30 days they consider the matter closed.

It's got me thinking are HSBC being generous or should they be refunding more charges. They did not send any breakdown of the charges or how they calculated the amount refunded

Any thoughts?

Best answers:

  • I'd take what's being offered.
Out of interest, how much have you actually spent compared to the refund?

Difficult to put a figure on what the 'turnover' was. I was based in the ME for 11 years and banked with HSBC (Middle East) for 10 years, made transfers back to the UK and used the HSBC CC when abroad. I was suspicious as the bank emailed me some time after my account was closed. They didn't offer any overview of how they have calculated the figure
