A question about : how best to invest 500k

Hello
I am interested to invest 500k with not too much risks over 5 years; I do need the money back at the end of 5 years to pay off mortgage if necessary; alternatively if there are good saving options, will be interested to hear too
any suggestions welcome

Best answers:

  • See an Independent Financial Advisor. Find one by asking friends/family/colleagues for recommendations, or on https://www.unbiased.co.uk/
  • Five years is too short a timescale to invest with anything like a reliable prospect of a good return.
Better to utilise the higher-interest current accounts for what you can, and an NS&I Income Bond (with a 100% guarantee) for the rest.
  • Have you considered whether it would be to your advantage to pay off your mortgage early?
NS&I income bonds are only paying around 1.25% and it is taxable making it no better than 1% for standard rate tax payers and 0.75% for 40% tax payers.
  • Tons of theoretical options (mortgage, pensions, savings, PBs, P2P, S&S, set up business, gift kids etc etc etc etc) but not enough information from the OP to make any even half sensible suggestions on what the OP should most reasonably do with the money. And who in their right mind would take the recommendations of an internet forum when deploying Ј500K to their best advantage?
