Good morning all,

I really need your advice.

I have lived in Spain for 13 years and have returned to live in the UK.

I am lucky to be staying with parents for a week or so but need to find somewhere to live as well as a job and get bank accounts.

Unfortunately, without a bank accout or a permanent address, I cannot get a home and without a home, I cannot get the a job. It is a vicious circle.

Is there anything that you can suggest that would help me with this issue. I am eager to earn and work hard but an not being given the opportunities.

• Why can't you use your parent's address for employment applications?
• Why won't a Spanish bank account work in UK ?
• My parents aren't keen for me to stay more than a couple of weeks. This would be ideal but I wouldn't be able to stay the 3 months required.
• What about being someone's lodger for 3 months? Lodgers don't usually have the same amount of checks done on them that a tenant does.
• Can you not stay at your parents a bit longer and apply for jobs from there?

• Surely you can register your (permanent) address as being your parents house even though you are not staying there after a few weeks, it could be your official address with all your post etc going there? Would you really have to sleep there for 90 days before you could open an account?
• Why can't you use your parents address as a correspondence address even if you are not living there?
  You should be able to update your dirving licence to use that address, and you presumably have a passport, so you have proof of address and and proof of ID which will allow you to get a bank account opened.
  Once you have a more permanent address you can then change the details over.
  Start off as a lodger to give you a foot in the door (you can then, hopefully, ask the person you lodge with to give you a reference when you start to rent)
  For job applications you only need a correspondence address - you should not need proof of address/ID until you are actually offered the job. For correspondence, use your parents address and , depending where you are staying, either ask them to forward stuff to you, or call in and pick it up every day or two, or ring them and ask them to open any post and tell you what it is, depending on how physically close you are staying and how time-sensitive things are likely to be
• You could also look into opening a PO box to receive your post if you don't want to rely on your parents.
  My sister and brother-in-law did this when they were living on their boat for a couple of years and didn't have any issues. For job applications they would specifically mention in the covering letter that they didn't have direct post.
