A question about : Help with Heating settings

Hi All,

Moved house recently and got my first bill and the gas alone came to around Ј137! the boiler is not a combi so I have a storage tank. I basically want to setup the heating such that its on permanently so that I wouldnt have to keep switching it off completely thereby requiring reheating the house all over again.

Can anyone advise please?

Below is my setup pictures. (when I turn the thermostat on, it does not trigger the boiler until I have turned the nob past the 25 Degree mark anything below does nothing.
)

Thanks in advance.

  • Do you have the instructions for the programmer??
    If not here they are...
It may be worth changing the times to suit your needs.

If you want the heating on constant you need to press the select button on the left hand side twice, this will change auto to all day then on.
Auto is all timed periods set in the clock
All day is first on to last off
    On is... On 24 hours
    Off is Off
If the room stat is clicking at 25 deg c, then I would say that is plenty hot enough unless there is a radiator near by in which case the room stat is in the wrong place.
Or very rare but the room stat may be faulty.
If you want the heating raging away all day with the room stat up to 27 deg c your bill will be high
  • The thermostat is probably faulty. The click is telling you what the temp is at the moment so if it is always at 25 it needs replacing. Unless you have a very large house that takes a long time to heat I wouldn't advise leaving your heating on constant. Look at obvious stuff like insulating loft and if your upgrading room stat could get something like the hive or nest so you can control from phone
  • Unless you're in all day I think you'd be best only heating the house when you need it. The idea that leaving the heating on continuous is more efficient has been debunked - have a look on the internet and here's alink to get you started:

  • To do what I think you want to do you would need a programmable stat, which would allow you to set different temperatures for different times of day, your existing setup won't allow you to do that.

  • I've always wondered if people who leave their heating on all day also leave the engine in their car running all the time in case they need it. Its a nonsense.
It has been proven time and time again that you are far better off just heating the house when it's needed.
Test your roomstat is switching correctly with a room thermometer. Unfortunately with a Honeywell T360 stat like that model the dial can come off easily during installation or maintenance or decorating, and it usually gets replaced in the wrong position thus giving an innacurate reading. I've seen it loads of times. Otherwise its not a bad thermostat.
The stat cover has to come off to adjust it and its mains 230volts inside so potentially lethal,so do not try it yourself unless you feel confident and are competent.
  • I should add that if the house had perfect insulation then that argument would be totally valid! But then there'd be no need for heating at all.
