A question about : Have you got your tree up yet?

About a week ago I noticed shops putting them up in the windows for displays, then the other day I saw one outside Scotland Yard in central London. I think I'll wait until December 1st at least, but my parents do strictly 12 days before Christmas. When will you put your decorations up?

Best answers:

  • The weekend before Christmas.... never any earlier.
If you want to be traditional then put them up Christmas Eve and down 12 days later.
  • First weekend of December for me. Definitely not November though.
  • It's up in the loft.
Does that count as being up ?
  • Mine will go up next Sunday. It's always the weekend closest to the 1st December.
  • Its put up on Christmas Eve and down on 12th night I never understand why people don't stick to tradition... everyone is sick of seeing it by the time Christmas comes around when its been up for weeks.
  • Mine will go up on the 12th/13th Dec. November is too early IMO.
In our house putting the tree up is part of the pre Christmas excitement, once we have had New Year's Day I am ready for it to come down, ideally before I go back to work
  • Dec 1st but son got stuff down yesterday so as they are in my room here have been doing the secondary trees tonight - well half anyway - but main one will be by 1st. Always seems a shame not to do it till just before Christmas as you do not get the enjoyment from seeing it - once Christmas is over its a bit irrelevant.
  • Usually about 18 December
  • 7th December when I get to see adpoted grandson, it is a tradition he /I have together, but now he is taller, he has already been on the phone to tell me, he wants to do the lights this year, and I can do the tinsel bits..........kids !!
and a real ekkkkkkkk, my works had all their up at the end of October, so it looked 'pretty' for the customers!!
  • Tree up Sunday before Christmas, down Jan 2nd
Was traumatised to discover all the Christmas decs, including trees, were up at Heathrow T5 when we flew out 25th October
  • It's November FFS!
Ours doesn't go up until after my birthday (16 Dec), usually the weekend after that, just because I don't have time until weekend.
I can't wait to see the back of it after New Year but usually manage to wait until 12th Night.
  • I'm going to put mine up 1st December after work. I always put it on top of a box, so will probably wrap that box up with red christmas paper the weekend before.
I'm like others, after New Year I just want Christmas gone, so I take my tree down between the 2nd and the 5th, depending what day's a weekend!
  • Next weekend - always the weekend nearest the 1st December.
  • Ours doesn't go up until the middle of December at the earliest. It has to stand in front of the under stairs cupboard in the lounge and it's a pain in b*m to move it if we need to get in the cupboard. I've got lots of other bits I put up though, wreaths, candles, garlands etc. I usually take it down before 12th night as my festive feeling is gone by then. I sound a right 'bah humbug' but I actually love Christmas, however, I prefer the build up and the day itself.
  • mine will go up 17th December (unless my day off changes that week) i will do it while i am home alone (i am a bit particular about where things go - and would prefer not to have help). the first Sunday in December i will put the kids tree up at church, we start with lights and nativity decorations and as December goes on things will get made and added.
  • I put a few bits up today, the tree will get purchased and decorated next weekend. I love it.
