A question about : The 'Have a Moan' thread

This thread is just a bit of fun, it is not meant to be taken seriously. If you have an issue with your ebay sales, or worry about keywords etc then start a new thread for proper responses. I suppose by its very nature it is business orientated as private sellers will have no steady sales due to not having stock- but feel free to join in anyway.

There is a conspiracy theory that sometimes our sales are switched off- there is no proof of this nor should we take it seriously. However, many people have reported that when they openly have a moan their sales suddenly pick up again- hence this thread.

One further tip that has been suggested is to list completely new stock- always worth a try.

  • Lovely jubilee, a thread to moan, where do I start?
I look at the title of another thread floating around at the top, "Is ebay broken".
I so want to reply, yes, about 2007 when Meg Whitman was coming to her final months, it did sort of still work, but then John Donahoe came along and completely broke it, so that it just made a lot of noise.
  • Considering more sales are sold through Ebay's app nowadays rather than a PC, I think it's about time Ebay started showing promotions on their app. I have a 10% off a certain quantity promotion but if you shopped using the app you'd have no idea that I was offering this.
  • I do not think Ebay "switch off" sales. I think maybe that Ebay give sellers turns in being near the top of the search results. I guess it is only fair but only if it is between sellers on equal standing. I do search for my best selling item and feel despondent that it is normally 3rd or 4th placed in Best Match and those above it are more expensive and are clearly businesses not registered as businesses.
Have noticed that my sales are very random. Some days I get loads throughout the day and some none at all. As I am not the only one there must be some kind of massaging of search results. Moaning about it, getting your lucky heather out or wearing your lucky red, blue, yellow and green socks out isn't going to make you suddenly sell things. I just think you need to embrace it.
  • Thanks fir starting this thread Soolin. I have a feeling I will be a regular poster on here
  • I'd like a moan about the address details sellers are often provided with - surely it can't be beyond the realms of the Ebay or Paypal tech teams to bolt on some sort of address verification? Having to check a buyer's address, correct the spelling, add capitalisation, and separate postcodes into something RM might be able to scan drives me mad. It's frustrating that the only part of the address that is always spelled correctly (and with a capital letter) is the county - which is the one part of the address that's not strictly necessary!
Thank you, I feel much better for that.
  • I would like to moan about the defect system - nuff said
  • I have a theory that packages with addresses that have been copied and pasted without correction from Paypal/Ebay flag up 'this parcel contains something from Ebay' to every postal worker or courier that handles it, as I don't think any other major website mangles addresses in that fashion.
Whether that makes it more liable for theft I don't know......
  • On the flip side, if you edit an address be careful to get it right! My address has a bit along these lines:
    Street Direction
    City
    And the seller had written:
    Street
    Direction City
Luckily the postman found it alright - the streets are close and it had a building name too - but if it'd just been a number it would've ended up in the wrong place.
  • I had no sales for over 24 hours, then I had 1 sale and now I've found this thread.
I listed some new items last night.
So I just hope my sales pick up very soon!
  • 100% feedback across three accounts, and today 2 neutrals on two different accounts. Both totally my fault.
Neutral 1, lost the Ј1.99 item, refunded and buyer left neutral
Neutral 2, description states used, but forgot to change item specific from new
    Aaaarrrrggghh
  • I've found the best way to get a sale on an item is to look through inventory and say "I haven't sold one of them in a long time, I better look at adjusting the listing", then totally forget about it. Sure enough one will sell in the next couple of hours. It happens a lot.
  • Just a quick question and one that I think fits on this thread. Has anyone noticed a downturn in sales to Australia?
Australia used to be a very big market for me, then when postage went up considerably a couple of years or so back it dropped quite a bit, but I still had a few regular sales. More recently I don't seem to be getting any Australian sales at all
I've never paid extra for any visibility and my listings still show Australian
    postage
