Greenfly and Garlic Powder

A question about : Greenfly and Garlic Powder

I was watching a TV program today where Alan Titchmarsh was spending time at Buckingham Palace gardens. Seems that the Queen doesn't much care for insectisides and so the gardeners there use a garlic spray to keep the aphids down. They said it was very successful.

Has anyone heard of this method, and if so do you know what the mixture strength should be. A bit of Googling informs me that Garlic POwder can be bought in supermarkets. It's a product I've never noticed!

• Garlic spray is a bit of a faff to make, compared with a squirt of eco washing up liquid in your sprayer water. It's also non-selective, so I can't see any advantage in it.
  Or, like me, people could employ some wrens / blue tits to do the job in the greenhouse/polytunnel over winter, just by leaving the door ajar.
• I buy Garlic powder from B&M, it comes in little plastic tubs like curry powder and herbs. I think i pay less than Ј1.
• is this for a greenhouse or outside? I got a garlic candle for mine from Ebay last year. This isnt the one I got, but it's a similar type of thing
