A question about : Going abroad

Hi everyone.
I have an iPhone 5s on a PAYG with giffgaff.
I'm going on holiday abroad and was wondering if I lose my phone or it gets stolen what do I do? if its stolen then they can't use more than the credit on my giffgaff sim so can't run up a large bill.
I've got my IEMI number - how does that help me?
I've got my house insurance claims phone number and policy number so I can report its loss or theft promptly.
Would I have to inform giff gaff or Apple ?
Any info/advice about it would be welcome.
Thanks a lot.

Best answers:

  • well first contact your house insurance and see if it will be covered overseas
report it to your network GIFFGAFF and they will block the IMEI if it is lost or stolen
or get yourself a cheap PAYG phone to take with you
  • If you PIN lock and SIM lock it then neither the SIM nor the handset can easily be used by a thief. That's the first thing to do, home or away.
It also stop them accessing all the other accounts you may have on the phone, such as Google, Amazon, etc.
I'd also make sure it is set up so you can lock or remote wipe it too.
    And don't visit Barcelona...
  • As it's payg personally I would leave sim lock off, as if it's lost a honest person would be able to contact you, if it's stolen worst case scenario is you lose what credit you have on it.
  • This help at allhttps://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201472.
Will need find your phone setup first.
  • With GiffGaff your Goodie bags won't work abroad. You will need to buy additional credit.
