A question about : Gas Hob heats up pans slowly

Hi All,

I had a Neff Gas cooker hob when I bought my house 12 years ago which cooks food nicely.

18 months ago, I had a handyman in my house to fix things for me and I ask him if he can change the Cooker hob for me and he said Yes. I rushed to B&Q and bought a cheap hob for Ј80 and he changed it for me.

I changed it because I needed a newer looking hob, but since then the heating up pans and pots have been very, very slow. Even frying an egg takes a while.

Is this problem from the Gas hob itself or has the gas flow rate slowed\reduced?

• If the hob is not working well, get a Gas Safe engineer to check it out.
• Do the flames burn blue? They should
  Could be there is a restriction in the gas flow, do the flames lick up the sides oy your pans if you wang the gas taps up?
• Thanks for the reply. The hob is working well but it's not heating up pots/pans as quietly as my replaced Neff hob.
  I want to have some idea of the problem before I spend money getting an Engineer.
  I don't want to call Engineer only for he\she will say nothing is wrong with it
• This may not apply to you but it is worth a thought. The other day I switched the gas on to cook breakfast for my OH. The flame was at its lowest possible setting and if I tried to switch another ring on it would go out.I was cursing and swearing, thinking I would have to phone the gas supplier when a thought struck me. Our frying pans are piled up in the cupboard by the hob where the gas pipe runs, and I remembered having a bit of a fight with a wok as I got the frying pan out earlier.
  I looked in the cupboard and, sure enough, I had accidentally knocked the gas tap. I turned it back to its full on position and everything was fine again! I felt such an idiot.
• Was your 'handyman' a Gas Safe Engineer and did he give you a certificate.
