A question about : Fundraising online but not a charity

Does anyone know if there are any web sites like justgiving that a local community group can use to receive online donations.

Many people have asked if they can donate online but I can only find sites that relate to charities.

Its a local sports club run entirely by volunteers with 400 children involved every week.

Thanks

  • I don't know of a website, but can't you just set up a PayPal account?
  • There's https://www.gofundme.com/ which is a US site, but I've seen people from the UK use it.
    If you click the "Near Me" tab above all the pictures on the main page it will find you UK-based fundraising so you can have a look at what others are using it for.
    Just want to emphasise that I'm just mentioning the site, I've donated via it without problems but haven't used it to fundraise and don't know whether it's any good or not.
  • I think someone has pointed to a suitable site, but I can't remember what it was, or think of a suitable search string to find it right now.
    So I'm hoping someone will see this and think of which thread it was in ...
  • Hi - I've got the same question. I'm running a campaign to restore an early 1900's clock shelter in the seaside town of Cleveleys where I live, and I need to raise a few thousand - not sure exactly what yet because I haven't had a firm quote from the clock company or the nod on the grant I've applied for from the council, but it could be up to Ј10,000
    I was in the process of setting up a JustGiving page until I found out you have to be a charity, then I discovered that GoFundMe skims off 7 odd%, and frankly I'm baffled by the others.
    So I'm a bit stuck. People want to donate online, and I'm happy to credit everyone for their donation, but I don't know what to use. Answers on a postcard! (Or MSE!!)
  • Came across this and remembered this thread - might be what you are looking for:

  • So far I have seen quite a few posts saying you have to be a CHARITY to use justgiving.
    Well, here is what the TERMS say
    By building a JustGiving Projects page you represent, warrant and undertake to JustGiving and the users of the Website that:
    you are 18 years of age or over;
    you are a UK resident and your JustGiving Project is based in the UK;
    the JustGiving Project is a specific, one-off project (and not aimed at providing on-going support to a Cause) which is capable of producing tangible outcomes once the fundraising target is achieved;
    the JustGiving Project is for the benefit of an individual in a community or for the benefit of a community as a whole;
    you will provide feedback via your JustGiving Projects page on the Website at the end of the fundraising period to explain whether or not the fundraising target was achieved and what tangible outcome has been or will be achieved as a result; and
    that all donations provided to the JustGiving Project will be used for the purposes set out on your JustGiving Projects page. You further represent, warrant and undertake that no fraudulent, criminal or otherwise improper uses will be made of donations made via your JustGiving Projects page.

    Good luck with all your fundraising.
  • I started a paypal account and attached that. They take 1.3% + 20p with every donation unlike justgiving and the other majors that take a higher % and ask monthly fees or joining fees. It is awkward to get started with all this. When all we want to do is good.
  • www.gofundme.com/
    go fund me site seems to be ok, I'm in the uk and have just started using this site to start raising funds for a sleep out for the homeless, simple to use and you can sign in using facebook and update topics from the fundme page and it goes straight onto facebook too, of you can choose not to link with facebook at all.
    If you click the "Near Me" tab above all the pictures on the main page it will find you UK-based fundraising so you can have a look at what others are using it for.
    donating seems to be straight forward as well, i haven't raised loads of money but I've only been using it for less than a week but I've made a start,,
    hope this helps
  • Hi im not a charity but use you caring all the time to raise funds for animals abroad. You just need a paypal business account which anyone can set up
  • Hi
    we have a similar problem but want to have people donate for both specific projects and generally so JustGiving project doesn't work for us -we are a town team. Because we want people to donate to specific projects Paypal doesn't work either! We had thought that as we have multiple projects possibly the new JustGiving companies page might work. Anyone know about this? Anyone heard of Golden Giving? They were recommended but seem to be bogged down in paperwork. Thanks for any advice.
  • Just Giving is used for a community fund by the cricket team I play for, so could be an option to use contrary to above?
