A question about : Free things to do in Liverpool

Hi all

Me and my sis are taking a 2 day trip to Liverpool in March. We have done the things you pay for: Beatles experience and Magical Mystery Tour etc so this time wanted any ideas on free things to do. We went to the Tate last time but I wasn't too impressed. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • Is it just adults?
There are tonnes of nice/quirky bars and places to eat.
Parks - sefton park is close to the city centre, also the festival gardens are free and lovely for a stroll around
Stanley park is close to both football grounds, not a great deal there - 2 lakes and a play area, but there is a lovely bistro inside called the Isla Gladstone, its a converted Victorian glass house.
The world museum is worth a visit if you fancy a museum.
    Will you have a car?
  • The 3 other main museums in Liverpool are great & I'd rank them in this order.
    1) Maritime museum which includes the Museum of Transatlantic slavery
    2) World Museum Liverpool (also has a planetarium, small charge).
    3) Museum of Liverpool
St Georges Hall is stunning and is free, although worth paying for one of the events or talks (between Ј2.50 to Ј15).
The central library is work seeing, just for Picton reading room and Auderbons book of American birds.
Speke Hall (national trust, so charge for non members) is a great 1/2 day out.
Or you could go to Sudley house (free). Both easily accessible by bus.
Either of the Cathedrals are free to enter, although have ticketed areas as well (Lutyens Crypt for the Catholic one for example).
Other cheap attractions include Williamsons tunnels (less than Ј5).
  • I guess it might help if you said what you were going to Liverpool for.
You clearly aren't making a two-day trip just on the off-chance of finding something free to do, so an idea of your area of interest would probably help people.
  • So many free things to do here as a tourist, you can see a lot without having to put your hand in your pocket.
I concur with much of what has already been suggested. the new museum at the waterfront is certainly worth a trip.
Interestingly you can head up to the roof area of the new library for a mildly impressive panorama of the city centre.
Outside of the City Centre, Sefton Park is your best bet
    Enjoy your trip.
  • Worth getting a Saveaway ticket for less than Ј5 each. Can use them on the ferry and also out to Southport and Chester by train.

  • Shopping...
  • Thank you everyone, your suggestions are much appreciated
  • Do the ferry and get off at Seacombe Ferry have a walk or bus along to New Brighton really has improved over the past few years. The Cavern is on the cards im sure . Saturday Night or Sunday afternoon are my favorites . I like the cave dwellers (resident cavern band on a sat night) good tunes and open mic/band too . There are lots of gig guides on the internet to follow what you want to listen too . Taste depending there is always something to suit some free some not so .
  • Get the bus or train to waterloo, walk down to the beach and walk along the coast path to visit the Iron men statues on Crosby beach.Theres also a coast walk from there all the way to the red squirrel reserve at Formby.(not sure if you need National Trust pass for that).
  • Love Anthony Gormleys "Another place" statues . I dont think you need a pass if your walking . Think you do if your parking .
  • Thanks everyone. It's going to be hard deciding what to do now as so many good suggestions
  • Have a nose at the green room in duke street if it floats your boat . A good old fashioned caberet night
