A question about : First I knew about debt
Hi advice please on receiving a final demand for a debt I didn't know I had.
Had item in storage for 6 years and paid monthly by S/O but there has been increases to the rates (I was never informed) and the monies continued to be paid and then I get this letter from debt recovery who 1 minute tell me they own the debt now and then have to speak to the 'client' before agreeing anything.
I spoke to the 'client' who in a patronising way said that he couldn't trace me by phone/email oh but wait he told me my full postal address.
Well now the angst and tears have stopped I'm angry especially when the debt recovery said that before I could take my property from storage I would need to pay the debt off (and continue to pay storage on it) for the next four years.
I'm waiting to speak to my solicitor at the cost of a letter being sent but I can't understand why I heard nothing from the storage firm and they continued applying for money every month.
Best answers:
- Do you have your original contract? Is the item in storage worth the extra cost?
- Hi, I don't have the original contract and the item is a caravan (20 year old) but I have continued to pay over the years never hearing from the guy so assumed all was well so much for assuming
