A question about : Extreme Couponing

Just out of interest has anyone seen this programme on discovery real time? I V+ it and watched in last night, it's mad!
Would never happen in the UK though as there are so many restrictions on the coupons/in the shops here.

This guy had 50cents off vouchers for this cereal which costs $1.99
The shop doubles the value of all coupons(I think it's the shop-anyhow it's doubled) so each voucher was worth $1..then the cereal itself was on offer 4 boxes for $4 so it was free!!

He ordered 1100 boxes before hand and collected them, as well as various other items in multipules. His total bill was over $5,000 but with all the coupons it came down to about $200. They stock up on everything, looking on internet and finding offers.

In tesco if there is an offer on there is only a certain amount you can buy when the easter eggs were on offer there was a notice only a certain amount per person, I suppose this is to stop people from buying and selling on. And the coupons are normally one per transaction.

Anyone see it?

Best answers:

  • I saw it by chance a couple of weeks ago.
Too much hard work for me. They definitely earned their savings. All that research, cutting out and calculating.
And for what? Surely nobody can get through hundreds of boxes of cereal before they go stale. And who wants to live surrounded by shopping>
  • Does anyone know when this is on? I can't find it on the tv guide :-)
  • I don't watch that program but I have a question of a similar nature...(Sorry if I am hijacking your thread).
I got a contract to clear all stock and fixtures & fittings from a store that had gone into liquidation. A price was agreed that I would pay the receivers and everything I removed was thereafter mine (bear with me you will see where this is going). From the wall in the ladies toilets I removed the vending machine and the 'contents' (female hygeine items). Now here's my question. The contents were VERY OLD (possibly unuseable). However on each box was a 30p off coupon (the coupons are pre the days when they put barcodes on them). The coupons state that any number of coupons can be used upto the value of the item but change would not be given. There is no expiry date on them and the company is still in existance. However when I produced my 10 coupons in Asdas against my Ј3.15 item they first refused to take them as there was no barcode, and when I challenged them as there was no expiry date they made the process of putting them through the till so painful I am seriously wondering whther it is worth the effort in future.
    Any advice?
  • I love this programme and think it's an amazing thing to be able to do, I do think though that the cost of papers/coupon service fee's should be included in the total they've spent though, I mean surely if they're spending $100 on just the coupons that should be added to the total amount spent and also the amounts are pre tax so there is still that to pay as well.
I understand that it is still hugely discounted but for clarification it should be added in. I love the stock they have though, I have a stock of stuff but nothing to that extreme. Plus the man who gives things to local homeless shelter is doing a good thing and should be applauded. I would love coupons to be available here, just to save some money but not to the extreme of buying several hundred pounds worth of shopping on a 3/4 weekly basis!
  • they guy donated the 1000 boxes of cereal to the food bank
in last nights he made up 1000 care packages for troops serving
so i say good on him
    i watch it every week
they do put in the hours
    i say good on em
here is you hand over a Ј1 off coupon they look like you just handed them porn!
  • I was glued to this last night. I have to say I was slightly envious of their store cupboards - talk about a stockpile
I think quite a lot of the people actually donate some of their goods to charities which is good. One lady let the teenage friends of her son choose what they wanted from her "store cupboard" - more like a store warehouse.
It's on sky channel 240 at 9pm on Sunday's and then repreated on channel 241 at 10pm
  • Hi kymbo,
As this is more of a shopping thread than Old Stye I've moved it over to the Food Shopping & Groceries board where it may be merged with the existing thread on the same subject.
    Pink
  • this is my new favourite show! my husband even said, right lets move to america lol - i said er.. no! - but its made me more coupon - savvy - for example, i have just gone to asda and got the Finish Quantanium packs for Ј5 and used the Ј5 voucher from the Finish website (im a newbie i can't post links yet ) - I asked the woman on the checkout if i could use more than one coupon at a time for the same product, and she said it was ok i am going to see if i can make my very own stockpile
  • That was the last 2 episodes on Sunday
SARAH PALIN'S ALASKA is on instead
  • i just love this programme on youtube it has some of the other extreme couponing programmes
  • I would feel mean taking the last 50 products off the shelf and leaving nothing for anyone else as some of them seem to do. Or do American stores hold bigger stocks than here where the good offers run out quickly?
I know what midnightraven3 means about the attitude of supermarkets here to coupons. All my vouchers seem to be examined very closely, imagine doing that for 100s.
I want one of those loyalty cards that automatically reduce your bill
  • I was raised in the US and every Sunday my mum and I would cut coupons out of the Sunday paper. Had to get used to not having them here when I moved over. We defintely need more coupons in the UK!!
  • I think purchase in bulk mostly go to hand-in-hand with excellent coupon use. So that you can trade stocks, adjust, make the product super cheap. Project did not start selling every day.
  • For those who have missed the show like I had, you can watch it online using this link https://www.letmewatchthis.ch/watch-2...reme-Couponing
Watching this reminded me of when I used to be coupon crazy (the time of the Detox Coke's sprang to mind hehehe).
Anyway, getting back into it again, I managed to scrounge together enough coupons and using my clubcard voucher money off coupons on specific items and an old DTD voucher I wittled down a Ј40 shop to just Ј10, Ј7.50 of that was to buy my son a cycle computer, so effectively approx Ј2.50 for Ј40 of goods.
Made me feel so good, as I had brand named items which I wouldn't of had otherwise.
My only gripe is the 125 pts for buying an 8 pack of coke, went thru as Ј1.25! Nevermind eh? I probably would of had the SA by the neck if it had a 500pt one. But I did manage to use 11 coupons no quibble in one transaction.
Now I'm just trying to figure out what mag's do MOC's
  • sounds like an interesting concept - I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
